iPhone 6 Concept: 20% Thinner With No Physical Buttons

Published

on

Another iPhone 6 concept shows an iPhone that is 20% thinner than the iPhone 5, packs in four speakers and touch sensitive controls for easier control of power and volume packed along a chamfered edge .

The thinkbym iPhone 6 concept puts buttons on notice, trading them in for touch sensitive controls for the current iPhone buttons, which helps with the dramatically thinner design. We also see new features like front facing speakers and a vastly improved camera. Thinkbym makes aluminum iPhone bumper cases, which may explain the all metal look.

A new iPhone 6 concept with touch sensitive buttons.

This iPhone 6 concept may not look exactly like something that rolls out of Apple’s labs, but it does offer some interesting ideas about iPhone 6 features that some users might want to see on a new iPhone.

This iPhone 6 concept uses a new design that thinkbym says is more ergonomic. The corners are no longer round, but this isn’t just for looks. The top corners include touch sensitive buttons that deliver volume control. The top of the device also features a touch sensitive lock button. Like many iPhone 6 concepts, this one features a touch sensitive home button that sits between two front facing speakers.

Thanks to the lack of any physical buttons this iPhone 6 concept measures just 5.5mm thick. That’s 20% thinner than the iPhone 5 and thinner than the thinnest smartphone on the market, the Huawei Ascend P6. This may sound out of reach, but advances in screen technology are enabling thinner smartphone designs and more efficient processors can deliver longer battery life.

The HTC One delivers impressive sound on a smartphone thanks to front facing “Boomsound” speakers. This iPhone 6 concept ups the effort with four speakers. Two front facing speakers direct sound at the user while 2 bottom facing speakers send even more sound out to fill a room.

When it comes to the design aesthetics, we get a look at chamfered edges similar to those on the iPhone 5, but we also see an all metal design that wraps around the device. Features like the ear speaker are wrapped around the camera on the front of the iPhone 6 delivering a cleaner look.

An 18MP camera is on the rear of this iPhone 6 concept and it includes a ring flash to help deliver a better overall image when users need to use a flash. The designer claims there is a special low light mode and a special panorama mode on this concept.

The iPhone 6 is not expected until 2014, as Apple will likely offer an iPhone 5S as early as September 2013. There is some chatter that an iPhone 6 release could come in early 2014, but other reports point to June 2014 or later.

I can’t see the new iPhone getting any thinner unless some sort of angled design is used. Taking into consideration the size of the headphone jack, there is no room to get thinner, unless of course Apple creates their own proprietary headphone jack.

I’m sorry I might sort of alone on this but I like a little thickness in my iPhone. It seems like they “running out of ideas” but it seems they are just “improving” stuff that doesn’t need to be improve. I mean I like it of they could make it waterproof or something.

I could make an equally ugly concept that was 80% thinner. Pointless.

There’s a lot of real estate not being wisely used on the iPhone, even though they keep polishing this brick concept to even thinner dimensions. To maximize the areas not in in use such as the back side, they could put in photo sensitive solar cells to use solar energy to help keep the battery alive a bit longer. This would give them a “green” angle that people are looking for in products nowadays. That would be a worthwhile feature.
