Apple released yet another iOS 8 update last Tuesday kicking off a chain of upgrades for the iPhone 6 Plus and other devices on iOS 8.

The iOS 8.1.3 update is now available on the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus as a free download over the air or in iTunes. We are taking another look at the iPhone 6 Plus iOS 8.1.3 update to share five things iPhone 6 Plus users need to know about this update and the near-future of iOS on the iPhone 6 Plus.

This is the sixth update for the iPhone 6 Plus since the release in September as Apple continues to diligently fix the iOS 8 problems that plagued the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6 since release. The iOS 8.1 update delivered a big collection of fixes and multiple small updates after to fix more problems.

Here is what you need to know about the iPhone 6 Plus iOS 8.1.3 update.

Apple’s iOS 8.1.3 is a bug fix update that aims to solve problems that continue to frustrate users. This is small in comparison to iOS 8 and iOS 8.1 updates, but it is a an important update that brings several fixes for users.

For users on iOS 7 this update makes it easier to upgrade without the need to connect to a computer because this update requires less free storage. We’ll also share new details on the what to expect from iOS 8.2 in the coming months and before the iOS 9 release that we expect this fall.

As users spend time trying to figure out if the iPhone 6 Plus iOS 8.1.3 update is worth installing and what comes next we pause to share the most important things users need to know about this update and what’s next.

iPhone 6 Plus iOS 8.1.3 Update Info

After using the iPhone 6 Plus iOS 8.1.3 update for almost two weeks it is clear that there are no major problems. This may be the most stable iOS 8 update so far. There is no landscape bug like on the iPhone 6, battery life is impressive and there are no issues with WiFi, Bluetooth and LTE. Personal hotspot works great, as do Bluetooth headsets and keyboards.

There is also no change to the iPhone 6 Plus speed. The device is only a few months old and it runs just as fast as it did when we took it out of the box in September. There are still some occasional issues on the iOS 8.1.3 update, but nothing that stops our use.

Make sure you are ready for the iOS 8.1.3 update on the iPhone 6 Plus.

iPhone 6 Plus users are already on iOS 8 so the decision to update is not as tough as on the iPhone 4s or iPhone 5. If we haven’t discovered a huge iOS 8.1.3 issue yet it’s unlikely that we will see one, which means it is safe to update the iPhone 6 Plus to iOS 8.1.3.

iOS 8.1.3 Jailbreak

There is no iOS 8.1.3 jailbreak and it is unlikely that we will see one in the next several weeks. Apple closed the loophole that the teams exploited to jailbreak iOS 8 and iOS 8.1 so if you update you lose your jailbreak. You can wait to upgrade later so that you keep your jailbreak tweaks and themes.

If we see a new iOS 8 jailbreak in the near future you should expect it to be an iOS 8.2 jailbreak. Apple shared multiple iOS 8.2 betas that allow these teams to start work on the jailbreak before the release.

iOS 8.1.3 to iOS 8.1.2 Downgrade

You can still perform an iOS 8.1.3 to iOS 8.1.2 downgrade if you upgrade and you don’t like the performance or run into a major problem. Apple will likely close this option in the near future, so if you need to do that you should try out iOS 8.1.3 now and then decide if you need to downgrade.

The downgrade takes a little while to complete and it will wipe the phone so you need to make sure you have a backup from when the phone was on iOS 8.1.2. Use this guide to downgrade your iPhone 6 Plus to iOS 8.1.2. Before you start make sure that Apple is still signing the update by checking this page.

iOS 8.1.3 Problems

Although our experience is great so far on the iPhone 6 Plus with the iOS 8.1.3 update, there are complaints in the Apple Support Forums and we’ve shared many common iOS 8.1.3 problems that are an issue on the iPhone 6 Plus and other devices.

You don’t need to deal with all these problems on your own. We shared a our list of fixes for common iOS 8.1.3 problems, including those that impact the iPhone 6 Plus.

The iOS 8.2 release is coming soon if you want to wait.

Before you install the iOS 8.1.3 update you need to make sure you are prepared for the update by backing up and taking other steps. An iPhone 6 owned by a Gotta Be Mobile team member ran into a red screen after the update, but he had a recent backup, so he didn’t lost any data. Other users experience this same issue.

iOS 8.2 Release Date

The next update for the iPhone 6 Plus may come next month. The iOS 8.2 release date needs to arrive before the Apple Watch release in April to add an app and functionality to the iPhone 6 Plus and other compatible iPhones. There is a good chance it will arrive in the second week of Match, but this could change. The iOS 8.2 update will bring new features, but it will also bring bug fixes for the iPhone 6 Plus and other iOS 8 devices.
