iPhone 6 Video Compares Rumors to Top Rivals

A new video offers an up close detailed look at how the rumored iPhone 6 might compare to two of its top rivals, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8. It also details exactly how the iPhone 6 might compare to the iPhone 5s, the device that the 2014 iPhone will likely replace as Apple’s flagship model.

In March HTC announced, and released, the HTC One M8. The device is a follow up to last year’s HTC One and it’s a device that will likely carry the HTC flag into battle throughout 2014. Just a few short days later, the Samsung Galaxy S5 was put into the fray as an HTC One M8 and iPhone competitor.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 will likely serve as the company’s flag bearer in 2014 as it hopes to keep pace with its many Android rivals and its biggest rival, Apple.

Apple of course isn’t going to go down quietly. Like HTC and Samsung, the company historically launches at least one big flagship smartphone per year and this year, it looks like it might be the Apple iPhone 6 that touches down to do battle with the Android (and Windows Phone) smartphones that litter the landscape.

iPhone 6 rumors have been incessant and they have teased everything from the iPhone 6’s rumored fall release, to its rumored A8 processor, to its camera upgrades, to its potential design. In the last few weeks, iPhone 6 rumors have zeroed in on the device’s potential design thanks to alleged iPhone 6 models that potentially show off its design.

A new video posted by TechSmartt doesn’t bring anything new to the table but it does give us an extremely detailed look at the iPhone 6 dummy unit that’s been floating around this month. It also compares this alleged dummy unit to some of the year’s top smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8. We also get another glimpse at it next to the iPhone 5s.

The iPhone 6 model seen here appears to be the same rumored 4.7-inch model that we’ve seen emerge in numerous rumors and mockups. While the phone is clearly larger than the 4-inch iPhone 5s, it’s much closer in size to the 5-inch Samsung Galaxy S5 and the 5-inch HTC One M8.

The mockup shows the rounded edges that will supposedly be coming along with the iPhone 6′s design. We also see how the button layout might change on Apple’s next iPhone. Rumors suggest that Apple will shift the power button to the size of the phone and change the look of the volume keys that reside on the side. In other words, it supposedly will resemble the iPod touch which is also seen in this video.

Rumors suggest that Apple could deliver an iPhone 6 that is up to 26% thinner than the iPhone 5s. A recent leak from Ukrainian website suggests Apple is aiming for a smartphone as thin as 6mm, but Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities believes a 6.5 – 7mm thickness is easier for the company to achieve. Recent leaks agree with Kuo’s assessment and point to an iPhone 6 that could measure right around 7mm thin.

In a note shared by MacRumors, Kuo also says that he believes that the iPhone 6 will come with a power button on right and narrower bezels. This lines up with what we’ve seen on several leaked iPhone 6 mockups including these. Kuo accurately predicted many of the iPhone 5s’ features before its launch last September so his information is considered more credible than most.

It’s important to note that while these mockups are aligned with iPhone 6 rumors, there is no guarantee that this is what the iPhone 6 will look like. We’ve seen manufacturers gamble on the iPhone design before and lose and we could see the same thing happen here with the 2014 iPhone.

As we push deeper into 2014, iPhone 6 rumors are starting to firm up. Rumors currently point to two different iPhone 6 models. One model is said to be between 4.5-inches and 4.7-inches in size. The other iPhone 6 is thought to be somewhere around 5.5-inches or 5.7-inches. Recent leaks have shown just how a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 could compare to the 4.7-inch model.

The biggest iPhone 6 leak to date comes from the well-sourced Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities. He sees an iPhone 6 coming with some substantial upgrades including:

• iPhone 6 Screen Size and Resolution – 4.7- inch (1334 x 750) 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080).
• iPhone 6 Release Dates – 4.7-inch in September, 5.5-inch in Holiday season.
• iPhone 6 Design – Power button on right, narrower bezels, larger iPhone 6 as two-hands needed.
• iPhone 6 Camera – No major Megapixel bump, but added image stability.
• iPhone 6 Specs – A8, 1GB RAM, Touch ID, 6.5mm to 7mm thickness, NFC.

More recently, a 9to5Mac report suggests that the iPhone 6 could come with a 1794 x 960 Retina Display and the same 16:9 aspect ratio that it has applied to its iPhones since the iPhone 5′s release back in 2012. This jump in resolution would lead to better, crisper looking on-screen content.

Kuo’s release date information lines up with rumors that point to an iPhone 6 release date in September. It’s still not clear if both iPhone 6 models, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will emerge in the fall. Rumors have pointed to a delayed release for the larger iPhone but that, of course, is still unconfirmed.
