iPhone 6s Pre-Order Offers Release Day Pickup In Store

Published

on

The iPhone 6s pre-orders start later this week and Apple will once again allow users to pre-order online and pick up the iPhone 6s in store on the iPhone 6s release date.

This follows the pattern from the iPhone 6 release, but there is still one big question about the iPhone 6s release date pickup option for pre-orders.

Apple confirmed online that you can pre-order the iPhone 6s for in-store pickup on Saturday September 12th, but currently the website only lists this as an option for the iPhone Upgrade Program.

This is Apple’s new way to buy an iPhone that only works in a retail store and includes an option to upgrade to the new iPhone every year. The iPhone Upgrade Plan requires monthly payments of $32 or $37 depending on the iPhone model you buy and includes AppleCare+ with the price.

Although you are basically placing an iPhone 6s pre-order Apple calls this a reservation. The description of the new plan and option for in-store iPhone 6s pickup is;

You can make a reservation online, starting at 12:01 a.m. PDT on September 12, to buy in store. We’ll help you get set up with the iPhone Upgrade Program.

This is the same time that the normal iPhone 6s pre-orders start. It is not clear how Apple plans to split the stock of the iPhone, but with a larger window between the iPhone 6s pre-order and the iPhone 6s release date it should be easier to ship phones to the stores that need them.

It is possible that the iPhone 6s pre-orders will sell out in minutes for the iPhone 6s release date delivery and for in-store pickup with the iPhone Upgrade Program. Users who want to make sure that the they have the new iPhone on day one, will need to be online when the iPhone 6s pre-orders start at 12:01 AM Pacific and 3:01 AM Eastern on September 12th.

Even after Apple sells through the units available for iPhone 6s release date delivery, the company will continue to take pre-orders for later delivery.

In addition to buying directly from Apple with the iPhone Upgrade Plan or with a normal iPhone 6s pre-order you can also go direct to your carrier. T-Mobile iPhone 6s pre-orders start at the same time with an amazing $125 discount on the iPhone 6s price. There is no option to buy for in store pickup at T-Mobile, but that is an impressive discount.

The iPhone 6s release date is September 25th at Apple Stores and in carrier locations. Shoppers can preview their iPhone 6s pricing options, which vary greatly this year, on the Apple website.

  • iPhone 6s 16GB – $199
  • iPhone 6s 64GB – $299
  • iPhone 6s 128GB – $399
  • iPhone 6 s Plus 16GB – $299
  • iPhone 6s Plus 64GB – $399
  • iPhone 6s Plus 128GB – $499

In addition to the on-contract pricing shown above users can make monthly payments or pay for the iPhone 6s in full.

So when you make a reservation to set up the upgrade program, will that appointment be on the 12 or the 25?
