iPhone 6s Problems: 5 Things You Need to Know

Published

on

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus problems continue to plague many users on iOS 9 and iOS 10.

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus currently run iOS 10.3.1 and many users are running into trouble on the most up-to-date version of iOS 10.

iPhone 6s users on older versions of iOS 10 and iOS 9 are also running into trouble with their software. Help is on the way but some of you might not be able to wait for Apple and its next iOS update.

Today, we want to take a look at iPhone 6s problems and offer some resources to those of you running into trouble.

We also want to make sure that you’re prepared for the future, just in case you run into an issue with your phone.

iPhone 6s Problems

As we push into 2017 we continue to hear about iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus problems.

iPhone 6s Things to Do2

iPhone 6s iCloud Restore problems are among the most common iPhone 6s problems and they’re giving new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus users headaches.

Users are reporting long restore times that seem to go on forever. Fortunately, the process actually won’t take forever and we’ve found a potential fix to try.

If you’re running into an iPhone 6s iCloud restore problem, you’ll want to set your phone up as new, install the iOS 10 update, choose restore, and then restore from iCloud.

One other note. If you are having trouble activating your new iPhone 6s, try restarting the device or trying another connection.

We’ve been hearing complaints about iOS 10 downloads getting stuck during the installation process. If this happens during your install, you’ll want to hold down the power button and home button at the same time. The phone will reboot and the download should continue properly.

The iPhone 6s problems go beyond activation issues, problems with iCloud restore and software update installation issues.

iPhone 6s users are complaining about Slide to Update issues (you can find a fix for this here), problems with iMessages, overheating issues, abnormal battery drain, Wi-Fi problems, Bluetooth issues, random reboots, UI lag, and a whole lot more.

Apple’s discussion forums continue to fill up with complaints about the iPhone 6s and we expect more complaints to emerge throughout the year as Apple releases new software for the former flagship smartphones.

If this is your first iPhone, or if you’re planning to install a new iOS update you’ll want to take a look at our list of things to do before installing an iOS update and at our reasons to and not to install the latest iOS update.

You’ll also want to take a look at the first iPhone 6s settings to change.

How to Fix iPhone 6s Problems

If you’re running into iPhone 6s problems, there’s no need to panic.

We continue to update our list of fixes for common iOS 9 problems and iOS 10 problems and those are great places to start if you run into a software-related problem on your device.

These fixes include ways to improve iOS 9 battery life, iOS 10 battery life, fix poor Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth issues, and plenty more.

We’ve also put together some ways to improve iOS 10’s performance on your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus. If you notice lag or random freezes, start there.

It’s also important to note that some iOS-related problems will dissipate after a couple of days. For instance, battery life tends to settle after a few days with a new device or iOS update.

If your iPhone 6s problems persist after a few days, that’s when you’re going to need to take action.

How to Downgrade

If an iOS update isn’t performing to your standards on the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus you can downgrade to an older version of iOS. For a limited time.

Apple isn’t signing off on any iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus iOS updates which means you don’t have this option right now.

The company typically signs off on older updates for a week or two before pulling the cord. Once that happens, the downgrade loophole will close up and you’ll be left with whatever version of iOS you’re on.

We’ve put together a step-by-step guide that will take you through the downgrade process once it opens back up.

We highly recommend getting familiar with it right now so that you can take advantage of the loophole in the future if you need to.

Additional Resources

If your needs go beyond our list of fixes or the downgrade process, know that you have a ton of resources at your disposal.

If you’re in need of a fix or advice or feedback about new iPhone 6s iOS updates, you’ll want to check out Apple’s Discussion Forums.

It’s a fantastic resource for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s problems. Bookmark it so that you can use it going forward.

We’ve also found the MacRumors community to be a great resource so its in your best interest to stop by there as well.

Social media websites like Twitter are also places to look for fixes and advice regarding problems with the iPhone 6s. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Your last line of defense is going to be Apple itself. The company runs an active Apple Support account on Twitter and it’s worth a try if you’re having an issue.

If you can’t fix your iPhone 6s problem on your own, you’ll want to make an appointment to see a Genius at an Apple Store.

They can run diagnostics that you might not be able to do at home and if you’re under warranty, you might be able to get a new phone.

What’s Next

Apple’s next update for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be its iOS 10.3.2 update. The update is currently in beta but it doesn’t have a public release date. We expect it to be released soon.

If you’re unable to fix your iPhone 6s problems on your own, be on the lookout for it. It should include some bug fixes for lingering iOS 10 problems.

3 Reasons Not to Install iOS 10.3.3 & 9 Reasons You Should

Install iOS 10.3.3 If You Want Better Security

Install iOS 10.3.3 If You Want Better Security

If you value your security, you'll want to seriously consider downloading the iOS 10.3.3 update on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

iOS 10.3.3 brings 24 security patches addressing vulnerabilities plaguing Contacts, Messages, Notifications, and Safari.

It also includes a patch for a potentially dangerous Wi-Fi exploit dubbed "Broadpwn." That patch alone is a great reason to install iOS 10.3.3 right now or in the immediate future.

If you failed to download previous versions of iOS, your iOS 10.3.3 update will bring even more security features.

If you passed on iOS 10.3.2, iOS 10.3.3 will deliver 23 additional security patches for potentially dangerous issues.

If you skipped iOS 10.3.1, your iOS 10.3.3 update will bring its lone security patch. If you skipped iOS 10.3, iOS 10.3.3 will bring its monster list of patches to your device.

The iOS 10.3 update delivered over 60 known patches for potential exploits. That's substantial, even for a milestone upgrade.

If you skipped the iOS 10.2.1 update and/or the iOS 10.2 update, iOS 10.3.3 brings their security patches with it. The iOS 10.2.1 update had 14 important patches on board. You can see them all right here

If you failed to install Apple's iOS 9.3.5 update, iOS 10.3.3 will also bring the three crucial security patches it delivered last year. These patch up serious security problems that could potentially expose your calls, contacts, texts, and emails.

These patches enhance the security on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch making them ideal for those of you who store sensitive files/data on your device.

Any reports of problems with photos saving to camera roll, or notifications not working? (Plenty of storage space for camera roll)

I too experienced the never ending iCloud restore for my new 6s

If anybody having the ‘slide to upgrade’ error and then get the activation code sent to your phone that won’t turn on. I got it solved with apple, just hold home button and side power button and release right when it turns off. then only hold down the home button while its off and plug it in while its still off. Oh all with iTunes open. It’ll bring you to a restore or update screen, choose restore. Accept all the info and it’ll go through a FULL restore and d.l. the software fix i assume. The only thing is it is a full restore so contact, media, apps, will all be removed.

Will I Aint – Thanks for the tip. I’m trying now. How long did the full restore take?

I had a battery problem after restoring to last settings. Found the problem of lagging and drain to be caused by slow to dead download of music to the new phone. Left is on charge all night and 5 hours latter it only downloaded 500 songs out of 3000. I will associate it with just too many people doing the same thing and the iCloud servers not keeping up with demand.

I turned iCloud off and did the rest with iTunes from the macbook pro and uploaded everything from there old school style and since then it has only dropped 3% batt over the past 10 hours.

I would recommend people restore from PC backups and wait till the servers cool down before going the over the air route.

Will not work on micro cell-no service-6 hours on phone with AT&T and 3 trips to store-
finally had to return the 6s-what nerve apple has to release a new untested cell. I’m keeping my 4s
    never had a problem.

I’m having the same issue with my 6s. Music through the headphones shuts off if the jack receives even the slightest bit of pressure. It also activates Siri if I twist the plug around in the jack. Very very annoying.

I was on my iPhone 5s on iOS 9.01. I could not perform an iCloud back up. Kept getting the message iCloud Backup Failed There was a problem enabling iCloud Backup. I backed my phone on iTunes, upgraded to the iphone 6s and restored it from iTunes. No issues with the activation, nor the iTunes back up. I still cannot do an iCloud back up as I keep getting the same error message. Any ideas on how to fix this? I deleted the latest iCloud back up, and I see I have plenty of storage, so I am not sure if this is even a phone issue or an apple issue. THanks

One annoying issue that is driving folks crazy, if you are playing music or listening to a podcast, the audio will stop when opening the camera app. When you are just trying to take a picture…with Live Photo disabled. No joy. This is something they hopefully fix soon!

I really want to be able *disable* Live Photo for good; it has this annoying side effect, even when it’s off, to stop any song or podcast as soon as you are trying to take a photo. I want to be able to listen to take a stroll, listen to some music, and take some snaps.

Anyone having issues with their videos taking forever to load? I have plenty of space but it takes forever to watch a video. I need my videos for working with my basketball players on drills I have recorded. These videos are only seconds long at max 1 minute.

ok so iPhone 6S has been out for awhile now and it is loaded with ios 9 so on initial setup I followed the prompts to restore icloud that was over 7 days ago and it is still saying it’s not complete. In the meantime an ios upgrade has been flagged but I am unable to install it as phone is locked into the icloud restore. Ive taken it to Virgin where it was purchased and they have no answers other then to say “oh that shouldn’t be happening”. If I reboot will I not lose everything ie: pictures etc that I have added to or taken with my iphone 6. Also it won’t do a full play of my playlists just one song at a time and I have to manually click the next song. I am not a techy type so any help in lay person terms would be appreciated. Thanks

I’ve been using my 6s over a week doing perfectly fine until yesterday my signal died “No Service”. I did all the trouble shooting available in the net but no success. my provider had no issues on this cause my sim card is working on my old 5s. my questions are do i need to return my 6s to the seller for replacement or need more patience to wait for apple update soon. tia..

    Tim,

Couldn’t agree with you more. I order mine last week and it has been a life saver. Best thing is that it really does fit my 6S perfectly. People on the apple forums keep complaining they can’t find a decent screen to fit but I have one. They are sweet!
