iPhone Arrives on Small Regional Carrier nTelos for $149

The iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 are launching on another carrier in the U.S.

On April 20th residents in nTelos’ coverage area can purchase the iPhone 4S for  $149 from nTelos, $50 less than you’d pay for an iPhone 4S that runs on Verizon, Sprint or AT&T. nTelos iPhone 4S pre-orders start today.  nTelos will also offer the 8GB iPhone 4 for $49.99.

nTelos is a small regional carrier that provides service in Virgina, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, Kentucky and North Carolina. nTelos has roaming agreements with Verizon and Sprint, which means subscribers are covered nationwide.

nTelos offers two attractively priced iPhone 4S plans, but its ‘unlimited’ data plan is not truly unlimited. That’s why there are asterisks in the carrier’s ads and literature. Both the $79.99 and $99.99 plans come with unlimited messaging and ‘unlimited’ data. The cheaper plan comes with 600 voice minutes, while the more expensive one offers unlimited calling.  Additionally, there is a Family Plus Plan that starts at $134.

So what are the catches? nTelos throttles ‘unlimited’ subscribers’ data speeds after 5GB each month, which means very slow downloads for heavy users who hit this limit.  Calling may be restricted in certain areas for heavy roaming users. Those looking for a cheaper iPhone 4S should factor in those gotchas before signing up for nTelos.

If you want in on this affordable iPhone action you can stop into a nTelos store at 7 AM on April 20th or online. The carrier requires a new two year contract to buy the iPhone 4S or iPhone 4 at the advertised prices.

Have you been waiting for the iPhone to come to a small regional carrier?
