iPhone Mockup Video Shows 5-inch iPhone

Earlier today, we saw a report dispel rumors of a 4.8-inch iPhone rumor and claim that the device, while in development, will not be out in 2012. And while that may or may not be true, a site has taken it upon itself to showcase the 5-inch iPhone that could be coming at some point down the road.

A report from Digitimes from earlier today suggests that while Apple may be working on a larger iPhone, possibly with a 4.8-inch display, it will evidently not release the phone this year. Digitimes had originally reported that Apple would be releasing a larger iPhone this year so given that it is now backtracking on that story, a launch of a larger-screened iPhone in 2013 seems doubtful.

This is what a 4.8-inch iPhone could look like.

And while that has dealt a serious blow to the hopes of consumers looking for a massive iPhone in 2013, a Russian site has taken it upon itself to soften the blow by issuing images and a video depicting what 5-inch (4.8-inches specifically) might look like if it ever arrived.

The site, AppleDigger, courtesy of MacRumors, has produced a mockup of a larger iPhone that uses a design based upon the iPhone 5’s. Due to the screen’s size, we see an addition row of icons on the home screen, with a bump from five rows to six. We also see the mockup in several different colors, a testament to the rumors that suggest that Apple will be releasing an iPhone with several color options beyond just black and white.

The ‘iPhone Math’ also has a 12MP camera, something that has been rumored to be an improvement on the upcoming iPhone 5S or iPhone 6. A name still isn’t agreed upon.

If Apple were to release a 5-inch iPhone, it would be in the range of many current Android smartphones and likely, several of the rumored upcoming Android flagships. HTC’s M7 is rumored to have a 4.7-inch display while the Samsung Galaxy S4 is said to have either a 4.99-inch or 5-inch display. The iPhone 5 features a much smaller 4-inch Retina display.

Apple is currently rumored to be releasing both a new flagship iPhone, dubbed iPhone 5S or iPhone 6, and a cheaper iPhone that may feature a plastic design with a 4-inch display. Rumors peg the release date as being in the summer rather than in the fall. If true, it could be that we see the device, or devices, announced at Apple’s year developer conference, WWDC.
