Is Microsoft Fixing the Windows Phone 7 Integration Issues?

Published

on

While Apple is focused on cutting the cord, there are still many times when it is handy to connect your mobile device right to your computer to move files and sync information.

Windows Phone 7 has had issues integrating with the desktop since it’s launch, but that may be changing based on a new job posting by Microsoft.

The hope is that the new integrations would bring back the tighter integration that ActiveSync and Windows Mobile delivered to users.

A new job opening posted by Microsoft points to recognition that Windows Phone doesn’t connect to Windows the way it should.

We are looking for SDE candidates to help build these critical connection experiences on current and future generations of Windows; moving large amounts of data between phones and computers, connecting desktop applications with the mobile experience and enabling scenarios that are critical to our broad user base. We have a tremendous opportunity to differentiate Windows Phone devices from the rest of the industry, and some really unique solutions.

The fact that the company wants a candidate who has, “Significant and demonstrated depth in at least one of our core areas including data synchronization, media transfer protocols (MTP/PTP) or mobile applications.” is also promising.

Granted we don’t expect Mango to deliver on this, but it’s always good to see that a company recognizes what the users feel.

Lets hope that Microsoft picks the right candidate for the job and we all get to enjoy better integration with Windows Phone and Windows in the not to distant future.

Interesting, I don’t have integration issues with WP7. But I don’t really use it for file transfer/storage.

Music, images, etc transfer well in Zune

Zune syncing is much better. I love the way it works in Windows Phone 7.

OMG I hated Active Sync so much. It never worked right ever. I am so glad that Microsoft got rid of it. Half the reason I stopped using Windows Mobile was because of Active Sync. The other half being that Windows Mobile 6 sucked.

wp7 is more integrated than any other OS on the market, where as Android and IOS core is based around apps wp7 is based around intehration for a more easy and flawless experience.

I cant connect my W7 phone to my laptop and transfer files. There is no dropbox app and it really pathetic that I cannot even access SKYDRIVE docs as I access them on my PC.

The skydrive access was annoying.  I’m so glad they fixed it in mango.

ActiveSync had it’s problems, but the alternative is to sync all of my information to the cloud? I don’t think so. I’ve been using Windows phones, and before that Pocket PC devices for years, but this decision in Windows 7 Phone to not provide a local sync has me planning that my next phone will be an Android device.
