January Star Wars Battlefront Update: 4 Things to Expect & 3 Not To

Published

on

January Star Wars Battlefront update is confirmed but its release is lacking firm details. With that in mind, we want to make some predictions to help you set your own expectations as we make our way toward the game’s first major free DLC update.

As we push away from 2015 and the Star Wars Battlefront release for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, we continue to see new and exciting details emerge for prospective buyers and those already playing EA and DICE’s new entry into the Battlefront series.

Star Wars Battlefront deals have slashed the price down from its $60 perch. EA and DICE have promised new Battlefront DLC details sometime in the near future. And we’ve seen a brand new January update confirmed for Battlefront users.

Star-Wars-Battlefront-Release-Date-8

The announcement was made on January 12th inside of a blog post that was related to the community event that started late last year and ended earlier this month.

Yes, a January Star Wars Battlefront update is confirmed but EA and DICE failed to give us some of the most important details including release date, change log and more.

While we wait for more information, this is what we expect and don’t expect from the January Star Wars Battlefront patch.

Our goal here is to help you set expectations and figure out what to expect from the next update. These are mostly predictions and they are not based on insider information or leaks from EA or DICE.

Expect Bug Fixes

Expect Bug Fixes

EA's announcement was extremely vague and we know very little (right now) about this January Star Wars Battlefront update.

Even though the change log is still missing in action, we suspect that this update will come with bug fixes for lingering Star Wars Battlefront problems.

It's no secret problems continue to plague all three versions of this game. EA and DICE have acknowledged as much in a running list of problems they're looking at behind the scenes. The last update rolled out before the holidays and the game is in dire need of new bug fixes to help stabilize it.

We expect the January Star Wars Battlefront update to come with fixes for some of the problems listed on EA's running list.

We hope the update includes a fix for matchmaking problems, the issue with the Playing the Objective Trophy, and the second Star Card hand not saving problem. At the very least. The first and third are critical issues that need to be addressed.

A DICE developer has told gamers on Twitter that "making sure everyone can find games quickly is our highest priority" and that "finding games must go faster." We'd expect some improvements in this area.

We'd also expect some of the fixes to be vague. DICE is well known for this and the first series of Battlfront updates included things like "general bug fixes for vehicles and physics improvements" and "general crash and stability fixes."

The rotation button also worked on my version 8 software. Thanks for the suggestion!

You stretched this out way too far. I mean seriously 5 of the 7 changes could have fallen under the same category of “Software Enhancements”

None of the Star Wars Battlefront games had a proper single player campaign. This is nothing new. They all threw together a little something for single player. This new battlefront has done the same. The game is all about multiplayer. We knew this going in. They didn’t hide this fact.
    The great:
    – Graphics are incredible
    – movement/controls feel fantastic and tight
    – sounds are amazing (that grenade that sounds like bobba fett’s bomb in episode II)
    – dogfighting is easy and fun
    – splitscreen local co-op (not online multiplayer though)
Bottom line: The game engine is fantastic and ready for action.

    The bad:
    – There is no lan option! For PC this is a big deal, but it would be nice to have the option for Xbox as well.
    – Small number of maps
    – Small number of characters
    – No Clone Wars or prequel maps/characters
    – no splitscreen online multiplayer
    – Build up characters online means unfair advantage (better guns, armor, etc) for those who have played longer
    – Maps are too small for this powerful engine
    – No space dog fighting
    – no bots (computer controlled) in online multiplayer (this really relates to no lan ability)
    – I remember early on, they said you would be able to fight on the ground, hop in a vehicle, then fly into space and continue the battle, all on the same map…they didn’t come close to delivering on that.
    – computer controlled characters in brief single player mode are very dull and one dimensional (nowhere near AI for marines in half-life)
Bottom line: The game feels like it was not finished and pushed out for Christmas

Conclusion: The good news is, the game engine is fantastic. It runs great, looks great and feels great. More maps and characters can always be added. The fact that they are planning on releasing 4 DLCs is proof of this. The fact that they are making you buy them is lame considering the game comes with such a small number of maps and characters. As much as the prequel movies are not good for watching, they have the best battles and vehicles and hopefully they will add these giant maps with clone troopers and those awesome vehicles. This will definitely give the game more depth and scale. Also, we need more giant maps. Spread the two sides out. Its ok to have to hop in a vehicle and ride for a little bit. Or walk for a little bit. Or hop in a transport vehicle to get to the action. Give us more giant maps spread out where we don’t have to shoot every second of gameplay. I think once they add more maps representing all the star wars movies and characters, add in the huge maps, some giant space dogfighting, this game will become the greatest battlefront game in the series and perhaps one of the greatest star wars games of all time.
Get rid of the unfair advantages for the online play. Someone who get the game on black friday shouldn’t have access to better, more powerful guns than a new kid who plays on Christmas. Its unfair and less fun. Give everyone access to everything. You wanna spice things up, throw in computer controlled elements (characters, creatures, vehicles) every now and then, in online multiplayer, that attack both sides. Let us setup auto turrets that we can upgrade.
Can great AI exist in a game? Yes. The marines in the game, Half-life featured the greatest AI (artificial intelligence) of any game, even to this day. And that game came out in 1998! Almost two decades ago!
