The brand new LG G Flex 2 release date has finally been revealed this afternoon nearly two weeks after being announced and shown off for the first time at CES 2015. This curved and flexible smartphone has a lot to offer, and will be available starting on January 30th.

The original LG G Flex was a surprising smartphone that wowed many, but not without plenty of flaws. However, here in 2015 the new and improved G Flex 2 has fixed all those issues, and is finally a phone many buyers should be interested in.

We took a few minutes to get our hands on the new LG G Flex to test out just how well the curved display worked, check out the latest Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update running on an LG phone, and put it through the paces. We came away rather impressed and for those wanting more info about this unique smartphone we have all the details below.

" "

Last year the original LG G Flex hit the market in a surprise move to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Round, but it was the LG G Flex that ended up being available from carriers in the United States like AT&T and Sprint. It was the first smartphone of its kind with a curved screen made of a durable plastic coating, it could bend and flex without breaking, but was lacking in many key areas.

For 2015, the brand new LG G Flex 2 is a nice combination between the original G Flex, and last years flagship LG G3 smartphone. Combining the two into one excellent smartphone with top-tier specs, one which surely should be on many buyers radar as the release date grows closer for those in the United States.

Today LG Mobile announced the official LG G Flex 2 release date will kickoff on January 30th in Korea, its home country, which is a good sign that the smartphone will be headed to other regions in the near future.

Last year the original LG G Flex had a massive 5.7-inch display that was curved, but of a lower 720p resolution and wasn’t what we’d consider a top end flagship smartphone. It still made its way to a few carriers stateside, but the new LG G Flex 2 has much more to offer and will probably be much more successful. For those wondering what it’s all about, here’s the spec sheet.

LG G Flex 2 Specs

  • 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080p full HD Curved Display
  • 2.0 GHz Octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor with 2GB of RAM
  • 16/32GB of storage and micro-SD support
  • 13 Megapixel OIS+ rear camera with laser auto focus, 2.1 front camera
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop with 64-bit support (thanks to Snapdragon 810)
  • 3,000 mAh built-in battery
  • Size: 149.1 x 75.3 x 7.1-9.4mm
  • Rear facing buttons
  • more

The G Flex 2 sports a 5.5-inch curved and flexible P-OLED display that’s made of a scratch resistant plastic, instead of glass like most smartphones. This allows it to slightly flex or bend if dropped, sat on, or mishandled, without the usual breaks or cracked screens that plague most smartphone owners.

LG has packed an impressive 2.0 GHz 8-core processor inside the phone with 2GB of DDR4 RAM (sadly no 3GB) 32GB of storage, a micro-SD slot for expansion, and then everything else is rather similar to last years LG G3. That being a 13 megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilation+, the laser auto focus, and a few other goodies. They’ve kept the same 3,000 mAh battery, one which is curved along with the smartphone body, and the device is already running the latest Android 5.0.1 Lollipop release.

In our hands the subtle curve was actually extremely pleasant to use, and made the phone very comfortable and easy to grip. Between all the durability features, rear facing buttons, impressive camera, and new flexible screen technology all with the latest hardware the LG G Flex 2 is poised to be a big release in 2015.

For now there’s no solid release date details, but have already received confirmation it will launch in the United States on AT&T, Sprint, and US Cellular, with more possibly coming. The Korean version will retail for just over $699, but prices are subject to change based on region and it will likely be $199 with a new 2-year contract in the US. We’ll update as carriers announce pricing, details and release date information.
