Removable Battery vs Water Resistance

Battery life on phones wasn't all that great a few years ago. Which meant having a removable battery was a great feature. In 2017 though, so many things are in place that it really isn't much of an issue.

The screen, processor, software and even charging speed and cable are all better. The LG G6 employs USB Type-C and Quick Charge 3.0 technology. This means it can recharge from 0-75% in just 30 minutes. That is 4x faster than older devices. Rather than waiting 3+ hours for the LG G4 to charge, the G6 will be 100% full in around 80 minutes. Or, 15 minutes on the charger will get you enough to last the rest of the night. This means a removable battery isn't all that necessary anymore.

As a result LG went with a sealed design. This enables the company to make the LG G6 IP68 dust and water resistance. It can be submerged in over 5ft of water for 30+ minutes and keep working just fine. That is something everyone can get behind. Accidents will no longer ruin your smartphone, and cost you hundreds of dollars. I'll take that over a removable battery any day.

Not to mention the battery went up from 2,800 last year to 3,300 mAh this year. So it should certainly last long enough for most.
