LG Spectrum Ice Cream Sandwich Update Rolling Out Now

Published

on

Both the LG Spectrum and the LG Lucid are now amidst Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich roll outs from Verizon.

The carrier announced that in addition to the LG Lucid Ice Cream Sandwich update which started rolling out slowly last week, the LG Spectrum Ice Cream Sandwich update is also rolling out in phases which means that owners will begin to see it roll out in the next few days.

We imagine that the roll out is similar to that of the Droid Bionic’s which started on Friday but has yet to roll out to a majority of owners. If that’s the case, it may be a few days before LG Spectrum owners see the Android 4.0 update arrive.

The LG Spectrum ICS update is rolling out now.

That aside, this is welcomed news for LG Spectrum owners who have desperately been waiting for an upgrade from Android 2.3 Gingerbread to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for many months now.

The device, which has been out since the beginning of the year, finally will have access to all of the features that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich provides including Face Unlock, the new lock screen, a brand new user interface, and an improved browser. All in all, it’s a better experience than that of Gingerbread and one that Droid Bionic owners are saying has turned their phone into a brand new device.

In addition, the update will bring:

New Features

Enhanced Customer Support with Verizon Remote Diagnostics.

+ New customer care solution to improve customer service experience. When a customer calls into Verizon Wireless customer care, this solution, with the customer’s permission, allows support personnel to remotely view the user’s device for device training, application demonstrations and troubleshooting.

+ Added Viewdini App.

Software Enhancements

+ Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) is now supported.
+ Watch & Learn videos are supported via streaming.
+ Improved voice clarity during voice calls.
+ Power button turns on LCD backlight while on a voice call.

The following apps have been upgraded for improved performance:

+ Play Store + Gmail
+ Talk
+ YouTube

It should also bring bug fixes as well.

The LG Lucid update, which has been rolling out since Friday, will likely take a few more days to reach every single owner so those who own the device should remain patient. As for the LG Spectrum, should the update be available, there should be a prompt indicating that it is.

Those that don’t wish to wait can attempt to download the update through the Software Upgrade Assistant Tool.

I’ve been trying to download Ice Cream Sandwhich all morning, but I keep getting constant errors. First time I tried downloading Ice Cream Sandwhich with wifi/3G on and it crashed at 2% so I kept restarting it until the 10th time I finally plugged my phone into the charger and turned on 4G. It got to 54% before it crashed and I had to restart again. My phone is fully charged and has 3 out of 5 bars. Why is it crashing so much? I have nothing running in the background.

I downloaded what I believe is the update. It started the install
.. When I looked half an hour later it was frozen on the old 4G Lte screen. I waited another 15 min or more and then forced a shutdown. Shutting down it gave its usual tones, waking my wife. I wish there were a hardware volume off switch. Anyway, when I started it again it again froze on the 4G Lte screen.
Makes a mice hot nightlight But I can’t get into it, turn off the light, and I can’t turn off the sound so I can’t try again without getting up and going to another room. Aargh.

D’oh. This morning I found it still on that screen. Called tech. They said pull the battery.
That did it. Install finished and all seems ok. Seems a bit sluggish though,

No luck with support last night. they made me do the same basic things I already did few times already. They made me start the download again and of course it happened again. Waiting for a follow up phone call this morning.

Tech support had me pull the battery out while the phone was still on, that no workie. Then they had me start the phone in safe more, that no workie. Next they had me do a factory reset of my phone, and STILL the update will not download, so the Verizon is sending me a new phone. I should have it on Wednesday.

I was eagerly awaiting ics for my Spectrum until I got it. Ever since, my phone has been randomly shutting down or rebooting every few hours. I no longer get 4G. The keyboard malfunctions several times per paragraph; long press fails about 1/3 of the time. It’s nearly impossible to tap a text insert. The cosmetic changes seem random and ridiculous. I thought ics would fix the ridiculous slow speeds. (Web & FB pages often taking 3 minutes to load at 4G) Instead, it made it even slower, and it took over five minutes to get enough keyboard cooperation to complete this comment. Aaargh.

It hasn’t been quite as bad here, but I have had many similar problems. Random opening of apps, sudden overheating or battery drains, rebooting, freezing during an unintended reboot, Generally slow interface, camera does more but video loses focus. etc etc. Much more.
