Lifeproof iPad & iPhone Cases Offer Optional One Year Water Warranty

Published

on

Lifeproof now offers a warranty for iPhones and iPads that are water damaged while inside a Lifeproof case purchased from the case maker’s website. Users will need to pay an additional $10 to $20 fee to add the warranty to a Lifeproof case purchase.

The new Total Water Protection Program will guarantee and iPhone or iPad inside a Lifeproof case won’t sustain water damage within one year. If water does manage to damage the iOS device, Lifeproof will repair or replace the device. The repair or replacement will cost users $50 for the iPhone or $75 for an iPad.

If the user has to replace or repair their device Lifeproof will also send over a new case for the newly fixed device.

The new Lifeproof plan doesn’t offer to repair of replace device that receive any other type of damage. Users who somehow manage to break their iPhone or iPad by dropping it in a Lifeproof case will have to pay for the repairs normally, for example. The Lifeproof case does protect against drops, however, so the scenario is unlikely an issue.

With the Total Water Protection Program, Lifeproof is one of only a few case makers that offer warranties on both cases and the phones inside those cases. At CES Incipio announced it would offer a warranty that covers water damage to users who buy its Atlas iPhone case.

Most manufacturers only offer warranties on their cases. In those cases, users who manage to break their case can typically get a replacement. Not many companies offer to repair or replace a phone if it gets damaged while inside a case, however.

Lifeproof’s new plan is a good idea for users who like to take their iPhone or iPad to places where there’s a lot of water. It’s great for the summer time at the beach or a pool, where an iPhone might fall into the water. It’s relatively expensive ($89.99 for the plan and a Lifeproof Fre iPhone 5 case), but still cheaper than buying a whole new phone.

I purchased a 90$ life proof case from c spire . I followed instruction to check for water leaks . It seemed to be ok until I went in to the water. Water got into the case and destroyed myi phone. Life did not replace my phone or pay for repairs. This product is to risky to have a 500$ phone in it and not protect it.

Norbert, it clearly says that you have to buy it from lifeproof or verison. Got to read.

They added this additional warranty recently, but for people who have used their cases for the last few years, they will not back repair or replace phones damaged by water, which was their original promise, although that promise is now, of course, removed from their website.

Ok let me first say the case works as described. I purchased the blk fre for my iphone5, for the purpose of tracking my swim times. The case exceeded the 1 hour water proof limit. 1) During the initial test I put the case in the sink overnight without any leaks. 2) Next I tested it in the washer for a full cycle, the case again passed with flying colors. Now the problem!
The reason I purchased this case like I said was because I planned to begin tracking my lap times during swimming. The added security came from knowing that Lifeproof advertised that should anything happen to your phone that they would replace the phone (so long as it was the cases fault), this sealed the deal for myself. Then while reading through the entire warranty I discovered that Lifeproofs claim of warranty was misleading. Lifeproof will not replace your phone unless the Lifeproof cases are purchased through either Verizon or Lifeproof itself and no others. I was in such disbelief that I emailed support, who informed me that they indeed would not honor their advertisement unless the case was purchased at the two previous mentioned locations ONLY! No exceptions. I’m sending the case back as soon as I receive the email from Amazon.

Something may have dropped on my phone but some how the glass was broken. I just purchased both the phone and the life proof case. Now I find out that the case is guarenteed not the contents. I think this case company is scamming people. I’ll never buy one again or give it a good rating to my friends
