MacBook Pro SSD Vs HDD at CES 2012

Published

on

At CES 2012 today, we had a chance to stop by the Other World Computing booth at CES Unveiled who showed us a battle pitting a MacBook Pro using a Mercury Solid State Drive (SSD) versus one using a Hard Disk Drive (HDD.) Keep this in mind. The MacBook Pro outfitted with the SSD has a slower processor than the one with the one using a HDD.

On the left-hand side you’ll see the MacBook Pro with the HDD while on the right, you’ll see the one with the SSD from Other World Computing. The test has the two laptops booting up the OS along with four applications. And what you’ll see is pretty amazing.

The MacBook Pro on the right side, even with the slower processor, absolutely blows the other one out of the water in terms of boot-up speed.

Literally.

If you’re going to upgrade anything on your older laptop, forget RAM, you’ll probably want to take a look at picking up a Solid State Drive.

And while in the past you may have had to fork over a ton of cash for one, prices have dropped over the last year making them as affordable as they have ever been.

It’s really not surprising. Anyone who has had an SSD would have predicted the same results.
