Make Your iPad a NetBook with a Clamcase

Published

on

I guess it had to happen. Sooner or later someone was going to come up with a case that turned the iPad essentially into a Netbook. The folks behind the Clamcase case look like they’ve done it. The Clamcase is scheduled for later this year.

The case contains an integrated BlueTooth keyboard, and allows you to use your iPad in multiple positions. It also looks really glossy in the video.

Not bad – this looks exactly like that concept tablet-netbook hybrid concept that Lenovo made a splash with a while back, but without the awkward syncing of data between the base and the screen. Add a swivel mount to the screen and keep it under $150 and this would be a nice addition.

The Lenovo unit may have looked like this, but was totally diffferent. You would have the capabilities of a Win7 notebook/netbook and the convenience of a less capable companion device. This jus repackages the companion device. It does not seem to address using the iPad in portrait mode.

I like it. Needs to be matte finish, however.

WTF?! If you want a netbook-looking-iPad then buy a FREAKING NETBOOK! a lot cheaper and does WAYYY more things than this stupid thing!

Clearly you haven’t yet experienced the joy of browsing the web on a light and thin device like the iPad. I’m about to go on a trip, and I would have loved to be able to bring a keyboard solution occasional long emails back to work (I know I shouldn’t…), while also having the option of sitting on the balcony with just the iPad when there’s no serious work to be done. To do this I need either an affordable BT keyboard or this. Or bring both my laptop and iPad..

Exactly my issue right now. Taking my x61T as it is my note-taker and development machine at the same time. Not thinking twice about leaving that home. WISH I had the iPad or the plane ride and the relaxing time between meetings in the lobby, etc.

It IS a 3 device world developing just like our phones made it a 2 device world. Wouldn’t think of going anywhere with out a phone and a laptop would we? Here comes that 3rd device that *MAY* be developing into a tossup between the laptop and the *pad*.

I can see that. My scenario is actually that I’ll be on a short vacation in the Caribbean, and one: while I might check email, the iPad doesn’t feel as much like Work as my x61t does, and two: I’d rather have my iPad stolen than my X61t!

Basically a tablet without a mouse pad. . .isn’t that about right? However, unable to run the software and do the things a tablet can do. . .

Interesting concept but I rather just get a simple stand and bluetooth keyboard. I’m finding the on screen keyboard quite usable actually. Plus, I always have my desktop machine when I need more horsepower and work on more complex task. I think a good case with a way to prop up iPad is a far more important and needed accessory.

I think this product looks very interesting. I may well be in the market for this accesory.

However, I think it will expose a number of issues with the iPad that are currently easy to work around. Like multi-tasking and data sharing.

To me the iPad all seems to work fast (except for the App store), with occasional glithces and catch-up pauses. I think throwing in some fast input might expose the performace a bit.

It will also expose the user somewhat. I think if you start to use the iPad like you might use a netbook it would become apparent how everything is oriented around app “silos.” – i.e it has no multi-tasking and file system.

    Time will tell.
