Maybe Games Will Be a Key to Multi-Touch

Published

Everyone is excited about multi-touch on some level but those same everybodies all ask the same questions: To what end and where are the apps? Well, maybe gaming will be one of the keys to multi-touch. Check out his video of Warcraft 3 on a multi-touch screen.

    that is pretty cool :)

btw: it’s “just” Warcraft 3 not World of Warcraft (that is the online RPG version)

    That is very cool.
I like how the player makes a fist and pounds the screen to attack/select. It seems fun =)

Anything that could inspire people to develop for multitouch would be welcomed but I don’t know how much gaming would be able to help there.
I feel that computer games aren’t very popular anymore. Because of illegal copying/dl of games, I think people just don’t make pc games as much as they used to. Not as profitable as making games for gaming systems; harder to rip/copy them. Games that are popular, MMOs like World of Warcraft, I feel that they aren’t the best place for touch/multitouch because any serious player would rather use the keyboard/mouse combo for far better controls (hotkeys, combos and such).
A genre of games where touch would make sense is probably games for the very young.
Who knows, I might be completely wrong… people can be very creative and resourceful when it comes to profit… whatever happens, SOMEONE will continue to develop them =).

Anyway, it’s good to see people getting more use out of touch/multitouch.
I am a big fan of those features =D

This is cool! The one thing I did notice is that the player doesn’t make very good use of the fact that he has BOTH hands free. (Typical Rightie.) He could act more quickly if he did that.

    Looks like a blast, anyway.

    This looks like fun.
But you are so much to slow like that. And you might become hyperacidic ;)

thing is that hotkeys (unless one is talking custom keyboard that can be programmed to send multiple hotkey combos) are just another way to reach whats on the gui already, but there so that one dont have to move the mouse away from the primary focus.

and if one use capitative sensor (iphone) rather then resistive sensor (just about everything else) then false detections or precision is a lesser issue.

the only issue is that the surface can detect enough multiple contacts.
