Minecraft Story Mode Release Date: 5 Things You Need to Know
It took a while, but a new game finally unseated Minecraft from the top of the paid iPhone games chart. That game is Minecraft Story Mode, a new story driven version of Minecraft that is available on almost any device with a screen.
Instead of building in a free world like you do in Minecraft, the Minecraft Story Mode gameplay introduces a story that you must follow and that the game creators will add to in the future with new episodes coming to build on the game.
Unlike many iPhone and Android games, this is a paid game that is $4.99 on iTunes and Google Play. It is also available on other consoles and systems, as we outline below.

You do not need to own Minecraft to play Minecraft Story Mode. Even if you haven’t played Minecraft, you can get into this game first and then play Minecraft later if you want the open world building experience that it provides.
What is Minecraft Story Mode?
Minecraft Story Mode takes you on an adventure set in Minecraft where you and friends need to find the Order of the Stone.
This first episode starts at EnderCon, where you and your friends are trying to meet Gabriel the Warrior. Something terrible happens and now you are tasked with saving the world.
Instead of freely building, you must follow a path, but you can make decisions that change the story and you must craft some items to beat the game.
Here’s what Telltale games says about crafting and exploring in Minecraft Story Mode,
“Though you won’t be able to throw down a crafting table, start digging, or chase the next pig you see, Minecraft: Story Mode will take these beloved elements of Minecraft and – through your choices – incorporate them to tell your Minecraft story. Minecraft: Story Mode is like a playable television show based on your favorite game, where YOU are the star, and your choices and actions decide how the story is told.”
The cast includes Patton Oswalt as the voice of you and a star-studded crew of other actors and actresses playing your friends and enemies.
What Can You Play Minecraft Story Mode On?
Minecraft Story Mode is available on a wide range of devices, at an array of prices, depending how you buy it.
You can play Minecraft Story Mode on iPhone, iPad, Amazon devices and Android for $4.99 an episode. That means you only need to pay $5 today to start playing, but will need to pay more in the future to finish the game.
The Minecraft Story Mode release date arrived earlier for Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Mac and PC. On these consoles you can buy the full season of Minecraft Story Mode for $24.99. This is basically the same price since you get all five episodes. If you buy the game on disk you pay $29.99 so it is cheaper to download it.
The Minecraft Story mode release date for Wii U and PS Vita is not announced yet, but it is coming.
If you like the game on iPhone, iPad, Android or Amazon devices you can save 25% by purchasing the rest of the season for $14.99 instead of $19.99 through an in-app purchase.
Minecraft Story Mode Not Recommended for Old Devices
If you plan to play Minecraft Story Mode on your smartphone or tablet, you will need to meet some requirements.
First off you need to be on iOS 7.1 or higher and Telltale games recommends an iPhone 5 or newer. The company specifically calls out users with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s warning, “WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PURCHASE AND RUN ON YOUR DEVICE OR YOU WILL HAVE A SUB-OPTIMAL EXPERIENCE.”
You can see the minimum Mac and PC Minecraft Story Mode requirements in the support page, but to see if your system can handle the game.
Minecraft Story Mode Episode Release Dates
There are five episodes to Minecraft Story Mode, and you only have the first so far. Here’s what you need to know about the Minecraft Story Mode episode release dates.
We do know the names of the rest of the Minecraft Story Mode episodes, but there is no official confirmation of when you can play them, expect for one clue.

Yes you have to pay for each episode 4.99, but if you buy season pass you can play all episodes because you already payed for all the episodes.and leanee is right i have played the demo and it is pretty awesome but the thing is they are only five episodes only and i can easily finished all of them in one day so what a waste of money ;(

A QUICK QUESTION
12/25/2015 at 12:11 pm
If I buy episode 3 for my son on my personal i-phone; then could my son still simply get on his MC story mode game on his i-phone ( while logged onto my i-tunes account that I used to purchase the episode of course ) and then be able to use something such as a
“Restore purchase” option to then receive it without paying for it again since I have already done this on my phone? Thanx!

I would love to know if we can do this as well. Do I need to purchase the episodes on every devise or can i purchase it once for all three kids? I am not shelling out $100 (ish) to buy three full copies so each child can play their own game.
