The most important aspect of a phone decision (aside from the screen) is the specs and internals. How powerful, fast, and capable is the device. Even if you just need a phone to have a phone, you'll want something that can handle life's daily tasks for more than a year or two.
Here's how these phones compare so you know if it's worth spending a few dollars more on the newer G6. Moto G6 Specs
- 5.7-inch 2160 x 1080 Full HD LCD Display
- Android 8.0 Oreo
- 8-core Snapdragon 450 Processor with 3/4GB of RAM
- 32 or 64GB of storage (with microSD storage expansion)
- 12 MP f/1.8 aperture rear camera, 5MP secondary RBG depth camera
- 8MP front-facing camera
- 3,000 mAh battery with 15w fast charging
- Front-facing fingerprint scanner, forward-facing speakers
- USB Type-C, water-repellant coating, more
- Full US availability on Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T & Sprint
When you compare that to the Moto G5 Plus below, you'll see a few important differences. You have a newer processor, even if the number is lower. Along with more RAM and storage, and of course the cameras -- but more on those in a moment. Moto G5 Plus Specs
- 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080p Full HD Display
- 8-core Snapdragon 625 Processor
- 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage
- micro-SD card expansion
- 12 Dual Pixel camera with f/1.7 aperture, HDR, 4K video and more
- 5MP wide-angle front camera
- 3,000 mAh battery with Turbo Charging
- Micro-USB, fingerprint scanner, 3.5mm headphone jack, more
- Android 7.0 Nougat
- Support for all four major US carriers
- Grey or Gold all-metal color options
Basically, the new Moto G6 has a bigger screen that's meant to fit in with devices from 2018. You're getting the latest processor with a little more RAM and storage space, and three cameras. Yes, there are two cameras on the back of this phone, and a better front-facing camera too.
The other most important spec here is Android 8.0 Oreo on the G6, while we're expecting the G5 to stay on Android 7.0 Nougat for a good while. Motorola is slowing getting around to Android Oreo updates, but don't hold your breath. If you want the latest and greatest software, you'll want the G6. |
