Both of these phones took a similar approach. Which is offering something slightly under the most powerful options available, but still more than enough to be considering premium flagship smartphones. They both have 6-core processors, rather than Octo-core chips like some of the competition. Here's the breakdown.

Moto X (Pure Edition) Specs

  • 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD Display
  • 6-core Snapdragon 808 processor with 3GB of RAM
  • 16/32/64 GB of Storage with a Micro-SD slot for expandable storage
  • 21 Megapixel F2.0 Rear and 5 Megapixel Front Camera (front and rear LED flash)
  • 4k Video, HDR Video, Slo-Mo Video and more
  • Pure stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop
  • Dual Stereo Sound front speakers
  • Aluminum Design
  • 3,000 mAh battery with the world’s fastest “TurboPower” charging
  • Unlocked with Universal 4G LTE (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc.)
  • Water-repellent coating
  • Customization with Rubber, Wood, Leather, Metallic Accents & more)

LG G4 Specs

  • 5.5-inch 2560 × 1440 Quantum-HD Display
  • 6-core Snapdragon 808 processor with 3GB of RAM
  • 32GB internal storage (Micro-SD expansion)
  • 16 Megapixel f1.8 camera with OIS+, laser auto-focus, 8 megapixel front camera
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, 4G LTE, FM Radio Antenna, and Infrared laser for remote
  • 3,000 mAh battery with wireless charging (carrier-specific)
  • Genuine leather in 6 different colors

They both have the same 6-core processor, the same 3,000 mAh battery, and run Android 5.1 Lollipop. However, the Moto X comes in more storage configurations, which makes no sense considering it has a micro-SD slot, and a higher megapixel rear camera. It'll be hard to match LG's shooter though, and LG edges them out with an 8 megapixel front camera.

Everyone has different needs or wants, and it all comes down to user preference. That said, these are the hard numbers, which are more similar than many initially expected. It's a hard choice.

Why would you think moto is the clear winner. It has an inferior camera. And the battery can’t be removed.

    I cannot understand your opinions.
    Why moto?
G4 has more brilliant screen & camera.
And everyting is better than moto.
    Why?

Is the LG G4 really $200 better? I was on the fence to get the G4, but the Moto X has changed my mind.

Yea that’s a hard one.. I’ll need to try the Moto X before I say yes, but $200 more is a big difference.

      It’s also $200 more.

It’ll be interesting to see how white the whites are on the Moto X as they have a definite tint on the G4. But, for me, LG’s crappy rear speaker is a deal breaker.

I own the G4 its a curved phone. Please fact check and get your hands on an actual G4 before you even write about it.

You talking to the author, or another comment. I never mentioned it isn’t curved. In fact, I have three sitting right here. I know it’s curved.

The LG G4 is $479 now on T-Mobile outright, which makes the price difference between the Moto X only $50. Considering the small price difference, I think the G4 is the better value.

Wonder how the sound will compare? G4 supports high def, and sound output is highly rated.

The LG G4 H815 32GB unlocked is $479 on B&H with zero tax due and free expedited shipping. A 32GB Moto X Pure Edition 32GB is $498.20 on motorola.com after the storage upgrade and tax. So LG G4 is cheaper option.
