Motorola Droid 4 Appears in New Official Images

Published

on

It’s still unclear exactly when the Motorola Droid 4 will be launching on Verizon’s 4G LTE network but that hasn’t stopped the phone from showing up in a couple of brand new official images today giving us yet another glimpse at the elusive device. The photos, courtesy of Droid-Life, were pulled from a Droid SWF file and reveal a sleek, all-black device that should excite those looking for a 4G LTE phone with a great physical keyboard.

Problem is, it appears that Verizon may have delayed the launch of the Droid 4 until early 2012.

Up until last night we were expecting the Droid 4 release date to be December 22nd. All signs seemed to point to that being the date. However, late last night, evidence surfaced indicating that the Droid 4 was delayed by Verizon, for unknown reasons, until February.

The exact date is February 2nd, but of course, that date is subject to change.

As we speculated, there are a few plausible reasons for Verizon pushing the launch of the Droid 4 until next year. The first, it wants to give the Droid 3 some more shelf life. Remember, it only came out this summer and maybe, just maybe, Verizon realized it was doing an injustice to those who bought it by releasing so soon. (Of course, the delayed release won’t change the fact that the Droid 4 should have been the Droid 3.)

In addition, Verizon just released a flurry of devices in the Galaxy Nexus, Droid RAZR and HTC Rezound. It’s clear that the Galaxy Nexus is a hit and it’s also clear that the other two are struggling as both have seen price drops since launch.

So, it’s a crowded space right now and one that’s being dominated by the Nexus so Big Red might have decided that it might not be the best time to launch another phone.

Wise.

Anyway, it’s still possible that we could see it come on the 22nd, nothing is set in stone, but we’re not holding our breath.

Gives them more time to put ICS and a bigger battery in it.

Not sure why people like sliders and are willing to put a brick in their in their pocket with big screens and voice apps around.

Because not all of us want to look like a dumb ass standing out in public talking into our phones about stuff that is none of your business anyway.

A keyboard adds minimum size & weight… so not a brick. Just a more productive device on which you do not lose1/2 – 3/4 of the screen to a virtual keyboard.

Because virtual keyboards are inaccurate and awkward to use.  Swype is good though but battery life is brutal on Android superphones.

The “delay” simply means I’ll be using tax refund money rather than Christmas money :)

looks like the bionic mixed with the razr mixed with the droid 3… I like it lol now if only they skipped all the droid between the droid charge and this it’d be cool. they really need to slow down with this droid brand name. wayy over saturated, too many phones coming out with the same exact specs with similar names on the same carrier.

Just remember Google now owns motorola wireless so im sure Google is doing something extra nice for the wait, besides this is the first motorola to be made under Google control,im sure the wait is well worth it.
