Motorola Droid Bionic Battery Life Said to Be Great

Published

on

Yesterday, we brought you some exclusive new pictures of the Motorola Droid Bionic which we knew were definitely not the last photos that would leak out prior to its launch in September. Far from it.

Today, another photo has surfaced and this one, instead of giving us a good look at the phone, gives us an idea about how well the Droid Bionic is working with Verizon’s 4G LTE network.

We’re assuming that the speeds you see here are with Verizon’s 4G LTE network and if that’s the case, I think those of you who are waiting on this phone are going to be pretty thrilled.

Droid Bionic

That’s not the big news here though. The big news is that the person who has this phone in their possession is saying that the battery life is fantastic and is better than any other 4G LTE offering on the market. Not saying much but hey, it’ll do. With moderate usage, the Droid Bionic is apparently able to get 15 hours of battery life.

Hopefully, that silences all of you that were moaning about the thickness of the device that showed itself in yesterday’s photos. This thing obviously has a fairly big battery and you know what? I would take a slightly thick phone with awesome battery life over a thin phone that can barely top a couple of hours with moderate use.

How about you guys?

So, how about all of you? Honestly, I can deal with the bulkiness if it has great battery life and it sounds like it does…

In a previous blog you said not to buy any 4G LTE devices just yet. Will the performance of the Bionic be enough to change your opinion?

That I did. You know what? If Motorola is able to release a dual-core LTE device with great battery life? I’m pretty sure I could recommend it to people. I’m still skeptical because of how new the tech is. We’ve already seen the issues with the ThunderBolt and this being the first dual-core device, there are probably going to be some kinks. If they are minimal though, this phone could definitely be worth it.

If there is one thing that Motorola does well, its make device that last.

I have to get hands on with it first before I can really give you a full answer though.

I purchase smart phones for function over style. To me, the good news with the Bionic is that is has BOTH. I like the look of the handset and if the battery is capable of lasting 8 hours, I’ll be happy! I don’t want to be constantly tethered to a charger cord throughout the day and it’s looking better for the Bionic. Motorola, make it REAL! Also, I hope Moto have some nice purchase incentives for customers, especially considering the many who waited extra months just for the Bionic. If you can, I’ll take three months of Netflix for free just like the banner ad I’m seeing here for another 4G VZW handset right now. Anything additional Moto can do will be appreciated too!

    Humbug.

If the Bionic doesn’t come with 720p, Tegra3 or something next-gen like that, then it’s going to be a huge bust.  For people without a contract, you can get an Atrix for one-third the cost.

Yeah one-third the cost for one-third the network coverage…..a phone is only as good as its network…..

By that reasoning, the Bionic will still only be as good as a phone that’s been out for 9 months.

        Good job.

Thats not true either.  His logic suggests that if a phone is great but its network is bad, the phone is bad.  If the Phone is awesome and its network is awesome, then the phone is awesome.  9 months ago, a phone is good and the network is awesome; you take the least of the two: the good phone. Therefore the phone is good, not awesome.  It’s only as strong as the weakest of the two.

Having seen the pictures of the bionic side profile, I’d say that it is about the same thickness as my original droid, if not a bit thinner.  (I don’t know of any actual dimensions that have been leaked yet, but with all of the Bionic leaks lately, I could have missed one.) I know the trend is going to super skinny phones, but I don’t mind the heft- especially if the battery has legs.

I really don’t mind thickness just as long as it’s not heavy. The batteries in the phone are not up to par, and then I read quad core chips are coming soon. These phones have have specs of computers that that a few years old now, and then you stuff it into a package 5th the of a standard size laptop. I sounds to me the battery will last long enough to boot up. I would say great for a tablet but not a phone. I hope they work on the technology of these batteries more than the processors.

I would like for them to stop the progress on processors for about a year and only focus on improving batteries. Make them smaller and more efficient.  Once you got a good battery, then go back to the processors.  If you shrink the battery, you got more room for another processor.

Good point. Of course, battery companies usually work separately from the processor companies. But there are innovations we can keep an eye on in the meantime. I wish they could develop a photosensitive charging technology that can use ambient light to partially charge the battery so it extends the usable time during the day. We can dream….

The total available power from ambient light is extremely minimal. Even if you covered a phone entirely in photocells, the gain wouldn’t be worth it, especially from interior lighting. Even from the sun itself, the peak power density (e.g. at noon in the summer) is only a little over 1 kW/m^2 and photocell inefficiency means you’re rarely going to beat a tenth of the total available power. A phone is much, much smaller than a m^2 (at least I would hope it would be, as that’s about 9-10 sq ft.) About the only way you could pull this off would be to cover your clothing in photocells and have a USB cable that connects your phone to your clothes. – lol

My Charge has decent battery life… if this is as good (if not better), then it’s good enough to be worth it.

Battery life is a major consideration so that’s good news.  If the Bionic performs well, that’s definitely a plus as I heard that one tester wasn’t pleased with the perfornmance.  Since the Bionic is so late to market with its “Last February” specs, I want to see what the Samsung Stratosphere is like and I will probably wait for the HTC Vigor to come out before deciding on which phone to buy.  I’m not thrilled with a 0.3 mp front facing camera, a pentile matrix screen or a 1 ghz processor since the SGSII is at 1.2 ghz and the Vigor will be at 1.5 ghz.

Bionic is the best phone I have put in my hand.
The transitions/animations blow everything else out of the water.
This phone is going to impress you watch….
The battery is great, the screen is perfect, its very light, great fast camers.
Def motos Best work……with no doubt this phone was worth waiting for….
you will see, if your worried about being disapointed
    You won’t be.

The Screen is perfect?  That makes me wonder if you really have had the Bionic in your hand.  I’m not sure how a pentile display can be perfect.  At best, it would be bearable in my opinion.

Doesn’t the Nexus have a pentile display?
