Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich Update Possible for Next Week

Published

on

We have heard that there is a possibility that the long-awaited Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update could roll out as soon as next week.

A source has informed us that while a release date has not yet been set in stone, a release date is supposed to emerge internally in the near future, possibly at the beginning of next week. Our source says that there is a possibility that the update could be rolled out next week but that if it does, it might come with many of the same bugs that have afflicted the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX since they were updated with Ice Cream Sandwich.

Remember, Motorola promised the Droid Bionic update for early Q3 and thus far, we have not seen anything leaving owners to wonder exactly what Motorola meant by early Q3. It’s possible that it meant before August 15th, which just so happens to arrive next week.

The Droid Bionic ICS update could roll out next week.

More likely though, the buggy updates that afflicted the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX made Motorola and Verizon pause a bit with the Droid Bionic ICS update..

That being said, it looks like Motorola and Verizon still intend on rolling out the Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update in August, they just want to make sure that the update isn’t as buggy as the Droid RAZR ICS roll outs.

Last we heard, the Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update was still planned for an August roll out so again, all signs are pointing to the software coming this month and not in September, the last month in Q3.

Generally, there is a soak test that goes out before major Android updates, and we expect the same to happen with the Droid Bionic.

From the sound of it, Motorola seems to be under the gun again in terms of hitting its promised roll out window. However, the delayed route that HTC took with the HTC Rezound ICS update, it appears as though Motorola is working hard to stick to that “early Q3” roll out.

We should know more specifics next week but for now, assume that the update is coming out this month.

They better give us it by the weekend or Monday first thing bugs and all. Act like you haven’t dropped an ice cream sandwich before and still ate it. Sure it was a little buggy but it still taste good!

From what I hear about the bugs with the razr is all you have to do is a factory reset and it works fine! It will probably be the same with this too but that isn’t a reason to delay it! I guess they just think that people aren’t smart enough to do it.

Well the problem is that most people really aren’t smart enough to do that. It’s unfortunate that our entire society has to base everything it does on the lowest common denominator, but there it is.

I bought my Droid Bionic when it first came out. Motorola, shame on you for putting the Bionic owners on the back burner!! This phone is so damn awesome! To a lot of folks out there, the Bionic is an afterthought; to me, it is a great one….NOW, GIVE US THE ICE CREAM SANDWICH UPDATE THAT HAS LONG BEEN OVERDUE!!

What’s your secret? (for loving your Bionic) My Verizon Droid Bionic has NEVER worked well. Like many other people who’ve posted all over the net. It’s just as bad as the Droid X2 that Costco let me trade in to get this Bionic. Horrible. I’ve been in safe mode now for a week, just to be able to use it.

I can’t believe how fast every one dropped the bionic! I saw it brand new on ebay going for 150 bucks! A 4g phone that is soon to have ics! My bionic has been almost flawless! After the update I drove from Ohio to Texas without a data drop! I have hardly ever had a problem with apps, and with ics it will be even better!

I would rather wait a little longer and have it bug free. Since the last update my Bionic has been working pretty well and I don’t want to mess that up. I have ICS on my Xoom and I’m not overly impressed. The stock browser worked better in HC.

I’ve been running the leaked Bionic ICS builds, the issues that plague the RAZR update have been absent from the last 4 or 5 leaks, at least. I would tend to think that what they give us as an official will be one of the newer builds, not one of the older ones. I honestly think we’re in good shape.

I haven’t looked into it much but don’t you have to do a factory reset to flash the ics leak? That might be why the leaks haven’t had the problem, because no reset is the reason the razrs are having trouble.

I installed the leak on Friday and at first it as extremely laggy but after a couple of restarts it run perfectly smooth. I love it and my quadrant standard went from about 2200 to almost 3000 and my bionic is completely stock so I see no bugs with ics on the bionic and nothing but a completely smoother running phone. I recommend people instal theleak its very simple and who knows when verizon will roll out the ota my guess is September according to someone I spoke with from verizon

I sure hope ICS comes to my Bionic next week but only if its bug free! I would rather wait for the update then deal with the bugs.
On a side note I am not sure why I read this website. I dont think they ever do anything but “guess” about this or “guess” about that. Bottom line is they have not heard anything about the Bionic or ICS but wanted something to write about.

There is no such thing as “bug free”. I wish they would just release as beta and give you the option to take it or not with the understanding you may have to wipe your phone in the future. Would solve all of the issues at once. I get the ICS I want and those that want “bug free” can stay on GB.

You could have it right now if you flashed one of the leaks. 232 is the safest since you can still fxz back to 905 if u want. I have been running 232 since the day It was found on the cheesecake server and have been extremely happy.

I would rather have it sooner and let them work out the bugs as they happen – isn’t that pretty much what happened when the Bionic first came out? I am on my third Bionic in less than a year – first one had the auto-dim glitch that cooked the phone in a week, second one has been through all of the updates for GB, but eventually something fried between the radio and the antenna – third one is the charm, battery is holding out for longer periods (same battery that I got a year ago) and phone is just generally performing smoother. Now I would like to plug it into my lapdock and be able to show our sale people that they can have an awesome “laptop” for under $500 and that weighs around 2 lbs…
Please Moto – I beg you – help me help you. I want to see my sales guys carrying your phones around, but I can’t do a decent PoC.

Yikes! My Bionic is crap. I might have to go through 2 more (refurbished – used) replacements to get one that works? Did you get any clue what is going on? Maybe they’re figuring out the hardware issue and only the newest refurbs have the hardware fix? I too was telling people I never need another computer now that I have the Bionic, with a bluetooth keyboard, all the docks, little HD adapter for webtop on my desktop monitor. If only it was reliable and fast! And what about the fact that moving an app to SD, doesn’t really move it to SD since they now call the “real” SD card SD-EXT and all the move to SD apps don’t seem to know that. lol. Any answers are appreciated, on any of the above issues.
