Motorola Droid Bionic to Cost $299 at Best Buy

Published

on

The avalanche of Motorola Droid Bionic news continues as its release date has been confirmed for the billionth time and its on-contract pricing at Best Buy has also been confirmed. We’re pretty sure the Droid Bionic is going to be launching on September 8th, the evidence is just too strong, and Engadget has pulled a Korean ad that again confirms that date to be the real deal.

In addition, Phandroid has pulled up a Best Buy pricing sheet that confirms that yes, the Droid Bionic will indeed be costing $299 on-contract at Best Buy which means it will likely cost $299 just about everywhere else.

It’s also going to cost $699, seriously, to get this bad boy off-contract through Best Buy. The $589 full retail price that we saw yesterday is again confirmed here but unfortunately it looks like Best Buy is going to be asking for a lot more.

I’ve already asked if the $300 price was going to deter you from buying this phone and the overwhelming response was ‘Why yes Adam, yes it will.”

Still feel that way after seeing the price tag confirmed?

Chime in.

I did want the Bionic but over the last several months, the excitement wore off. Three factors are turning me off the Bionic:
    1. The lengthy wait
    2. Lack of motivating information from VZW or Motorola while we were waiting.
    3. The fact that better handsets are coming out before the end of 2011.

Considering the above, it takes a big “huevos” to charge $300.00 for the Bionic. If Motorola also wants us to purchase the accessories for the Bionic (that don’t work with other VZW handsets) then they need to consider dropping the price to $200.00. What we save, we can spend on the other goodies.

I waited this long for the Bionic. At $300.00, I can wait two to three months more for an even better handset .

What do you guys think about this?    -Tony

If the battery life is as great as reported, then I’ll probably buy it.

I agree on all of the above.  I have been a Verizon customer for about 10 years. Verizon has horrible customer service and a $300 price tag for the bionic is ridiculous.  Like you said there well be plenty of better handsets coming out before the end of 2011.  Personally im switching to Sprint and picking up the galaxy s2 for $200 instead.

How did they confirm? Every Verizon store I’ve been too says they don’t know yet…

I have to admit as the prices on smartphones continue to rise, I find myself wanting them less and less. When I take a step back and see what I really use the phone for, it’s for phone calls, texting, and picture messaging.  Push emails are nice to have but they are not necessary for myself.  I’m sure it’s more necessary for parents with children in school as a way to communicate immediately for various reasons.

I have the HTC Thuderbolt right and I do love it, but I really only use the apps because they are there and I’m on the unlimited plan.

Remember when the world still went around when there were no cell phones?  It’s seemed to be a much simpler time and well did just fine.

There was a supposed Costco flyer circulating awhile back that indicated it would be $299, but also include the desktop and auto dock.  If that turns out to be true, I’m probably in.  I always end up buying those anyway, so my total price for a $199 phone is usually $275- 300 anyway. If not, I may hold off and see what October brings.

Not at $300.  I’ve been using my Eris (feels like since cars were carbuereted).  I really “want” the dual core, hdmi out, front camera, but I definitely don’t “need” it.
