Motorola Droid RAZR to Cost $650 Off-Contract?

Published

on

If you were hoping to get the upcoming Motorola Droid RAZR off-contract when it goes up for pre-sale on October 27th, you might have to break open more than the piggy bank because rumor has it that the device is going to cost a whopping $649 at full retail. That’s just about $120 more expensive than the Motorola Droid Bionic is off-contract through Verizon.

Of course, at this point this is only a rumor, but we should find out for sure this Thursday when the device goes on sale. If you’re thinking of buying it on a new two-year contract, be prepared to shell out a cool $300.

Now, we have to start wondering.

Droid RAZR

Will this $650 off-contract price be what Verizon charges for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus as well? We have a feeling that would put a damper on the hopes and dreams of many of you out there.

Don’t expect this policy to change for awhile either.

Until Verizon gets some sort of competition in the 4G LTE market, AT&T is taking its time and Sprint won’t have a 4G LTE network in place until next year, you should come to expect these kinds of prices, no matter how unfair you think they are.

Exactly, Phall016. Glad someone said it, and its hardware is vastly superior to that of the Iphones as well…..so, maybe ease off on the whole “whopping” adjective Adam.

Droid X was 600 off contract. Fifty bucks more seems like a fair deal…

I agree phones now days are far to expensive for what your getting $300 on contract just cause its 4G and breaks a certain price barrier…im not even sure how much it takes manufacturers to build these devices. But claims that Apple nets a good sum of money on the iPhone more than most other company leads me to believe we the customers are being dealt a sorry hand and are paying more than their worth, especially in the economy we live in.

Why cant we all just go back to the simpler days when we all enjoyed phones like the Razr and Env and when 3.2MP was mind blowing?!?!? :)

I’ll pay if… it has a good camera.   I use that part of my Droid 1 more than talking even, and it’s camera sucks.

they only charge 300 because they can, they know they’re not worth it.  the thunderbolt was $300 when it came out and 7 months later it can be gotten for 99 or less.  is it worth an extra $200 to have this phone now, instead of 6 months later? will you actually get 33$ a month extra out of it?
