Motorola Droid X Gingerbread Update Rolling Out March 27th?

Published

on

Before Motorola Droid X owners get too excited, remember, this is only a rumor and a rumor about a software update which generally means there is a very good chance that it won’t happen. You never know though, stranger things have definitely happened in the world of smartphones.

Motorola Droid X

Droid-Life is reporting that the Droid X Gingerbread update could start rolling out to business clients first and soon after that, it will start rolling out to owners across the United States.

The report does contain some concern that Sunday could be a little early but it also a claim from an ‘industry friend’ that states that the build is already complete and that Verizon and Motorola are trying to figure out when to roll it out.

This news will surely frustrate Samsung Galaxy S owners who bought their device around the same time as the Droid X (July, 2010) but only recently got upgraded to Android 2.2 Froyo. Verizon’s version of the Galaxy S, the Samsung Fascinate, is still on Android 2.1 Elclair.

Again, take this with a big grain of salt, but at the same time, stay optimistic that Sunday is going to be the day.

I almost got the X but went with the Fascinate. I’m sure the Fascinate will see 2.2 probably in the near future (there is still a glimmer of doubt). I was between the X and Fascinate. It wouldn’t be a big deal except 2.1 sucks at delivering pop3. I have buyers remorse I should have went with the X. My friend told me to stay shy of Samsung but I was proud of it when I first got it, no longer. Samsung sucks.

Don’t be remorseful. The Droid X drops 3G constantly, comes with an awful program that asks to be installed every time the X is connected to a computer, and only gets updated when there’s more bloatware to shove on us. I’m never getting another product from Motorola again.

Droid X since release and loving every minute of it. My wife has one too. No dropped 3G connections here. Sounds like an area coverage issue more than the phone, Halofranchis. The computer app/driver works perfectly for me.

The bloat is irritating, but let’s be honest. It isn’t just Moto that does this. Plus, that’s what rooting and a clean ROM is for. Liberty FTW!

When hooking DroidX up to computer… It only does an autorun =making your files accessible on your PC. There you take whichever files to save on PC. *only one install*

        Anyhow, now if you mentioned:
        – No simple way to upload videos (app from market to post on FB)
        – only about 16 sec of video can be emailed
-laggy camera (gr8 hd outside pics tho)

Then I would agree with you. All phones have their problems, gain something with one company and lose it with another and vice versa.

I live in woods with great call quality, but I notice if it seems no 3g arrows, a notification is trying to come through. But even if no moving arrows at times, my calls and texts still seem to come through.

A word of advice with any smartphone/pda… they are like little computer, find time to turn off your phone for 10 secs each day if you don’t turn off at night.

Thanks for your comments. I guess it goes to show any product can have it’s drawbacks. I guess being an apple drone would have it’s complaints too LOL. I like my phone don’t get me wrong I can put up with Eclair. My drawback is pop3 e-mail which isn’t reliable. It’s supposed to be fixed with Froyo for me a needed upgrade. I rely on e-mail for work. I traded in my blackberry and am now locked into a contract with verizon for two years and can’t fix what I need till they release it OTA.
