New Android KitKat Update Appears as Android 4.4.3 Remains MIA

Published

A new Android KitKat update build has been spotted on board the Nexus 5 though it’s not clear what the update might be. With Nexus 7, Nexus 4, Nexus 10, and Nexus 5 users desperately needing a bug fix and with Android 4.5 update rumors swirling, the discovery of this new build is extremely intriguing.

Several months ago, Google rolled out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and the Nexus 10 from Samsung. And while it added features and fixed some of KitKat’s initial problems, Nexus owners have been clamoring for a bug fix update from Google.

So far, calls for an Android 4.4.3 KitKat update have fallen on deaf ears. The only thing that Google is willing to say is that it’s planning fixes for at least some of the problems plaguing Nexus owners inside Android 4.4.2 KitKat. It hasn’t been specific about how or when it will fix these issues, some of which are serious problems.

Nexus 5 Problem

While an Android 4.4.3 KitKat update remains missing in action, a glimmer of hope has sprung up today in the form of a brand new Android KitKat build that has been spotted by Myce.

The new build, KTU65, has been spotted on board a Nexus 5 on a Google forum. Previously, the build had been tagged with a “Google Restrict View” which means that only those with proper credentials could see the update. For whatever reason, that tag has been stripped and the update is now visible to the public. KTU65 is a KitKat build, based on the ‘K’ in the build name.

Myce suggests that the presence of this new build, which it says is extremely recent, could mean that Nexus owners will see another KitKat update before the arrival of Google’s ‘L’ Android update.

Android 4.4.3 KitKat update rumors are non-existent but we have heard about a possible Android 4.5 update. A report pegged that update for July and claimed that it would arrive with a brand new Nexus 8. Nexus 8 rumors have begun to pick up steam as of late as we march closer to Google’s I/O conference in late June.

Other than its name and the fact that it’s apparently running on a Nexus 5, there isn’t much to go on. And while the update has been outed, there is no guarantee that this will be the next build that hits Google’s Nexus devices. All Nexus users can do at this point is cross their fingers and hope that a new Android 4.4 KitKat update is close.
