New Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich Update Details Emerge

Published

on

New details about the missing Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich update emerged as HTC claims that it’s still ironing out an issue and that it will share more details in the future in regards to the update itself.

A Twitter response from HTC’s account, first discovered by Droid-Life, made to an inquiring Droid Incredible 2 owner states that the company is working on a connectivity issue that is plaguing the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update and that it will share details when information becomes available. This is the first time that HTC has mentioned specifically what might be holding the update back, an update that was originally promised by the end of August.

HTC is apparently still working on the Droid Incredible 2 ICS update.

While this is good news to be sure, it’s also still possible that we may see HTC scrap the update altogether. The company has not clarified either way. However, that it’s still working on the update is a good sign for both Droid Incredible and also HTC ThunderBolt owners who are also wondering where their upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is.

HTC originally promised both the HTC ThunderBolt and Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich updates by the end of August. Shortly before the end of that month, the company revealed that it would not be pushing out the software to customers. Since then, rumors have swirled about release dates leaving many to openly question whether the company is still committed to releasing the updates. After all, it’s been nearly three months since the end of August.

Fortunately, HTC still hasn’t canceled either of the updates which leaves open the possibility of roll outs somewhere down the line. When those roll outs might take place is unknown but given that HTC is finally spilling the specific beans means that we’ll get some sort of announcement soon.

Keep those fingers crossed and hope that HTC and Verizon are able to give more information in the coming days.

All is well that ends well. I don’t see this ending well though, HTC has been way too slow on this. I don’t think these updates are going to be coming any time soon. At either rate with HTC’s lack of transparency on this, and with all the delays, I’m going to avoid HTC until they start doing better with updates for phones that were major sellers.

Although i haven’t had any major issues with the Incredible 2 with Gingerbread, not getting ICS when most other phones will be running Jelly Bean is a bit disappointing. The reality is that I’d rather not get platform with known issues and this update has them. When it’s ready, I’ll install it. When my contract with Verizon expires, it will take an outstanding product for me to consider another HTC phone. For what I pay for my Verizon service, I will be reconsidering that, too.

Really sucks that HTC can’t update a phone that is barely over a year old. I will never buy another HTC phone again.

I did force the unofficial ICS update on my INC 2, and I have to say that overall, it is an INCREDIBLE improvement in speed, convenience and usability. Getting to use the FireFox and Chrome browsers for Android was an amazing jump over Dolphin.

The connectivity problem is twofold: having 3G and wifi on at the same time results in the two constantly fighting one another for control, so you can’t do anything unless you turn one off manually. Also, sometimes my phone simply WILL NOT maintain a 3G connection, even in a good reception area. A reboot fixes this.

HTC is definitely showing why they are behind Samsung in market share. My next Android will be a Samsung, period.

I agree regarding the unfortunate lack of HTC response and committment to its products. It pains me to go to Samsung, but there is no other choice since the phones are now much more expensive and have become a staple in life. You need to know you can own a phone that will upgrade and last for more than 2 years. I was almost sold on the DNA as an upgrade from myDINC 2, even though they went “apple” on us and tool out the SD card slot; but being unsure the DNA will not be upgraded in the future, like my DINC 2, I will stay away from HTC.

If HTC does not upgrade this phone by 12/31/12, I am going Razr and never buy another HTC again. BTW HTC I have owned 8 of your phones in my family. Merry Chritsmas

Do NOT buy the Razr! I upgraded my inc2 to the original (Cranberry red, limited edition during black friday) I’ve had it for 4 days. Absolutely hate it. I’ll be mailing It back tomorrow. The features suck! My inc2 is faster although its a single core vs. Dual. The amoled screen sucks, camera sucks bad, and it won’t play dead trigger without lagging, and crashing during game play, although it has a graphic accelerater I can’t even play it on the lowest graphic setting. On the inc2 I could play it on the highest setting and have no issues. The 4g is practically non existent. It will start but drop to 3g even in 4g areas. My inc2 gets the same if not better signal strength although it has connection issues. Plus even though the Razr has 16gigs internal memory only 8 gb is available (due to crapware from verizon) the phone looks nice and battey is the same as inc2. ( with es task killer and juice defender installed and running) oh and that one gig of RAM, worthless. More then half of it is used up by the operating system. The phone is not as fast as It claims. Also in a really dark room (noticed on first day) on a black background, you’ll see what looks like ink spots all over your screen ( not noticeable during the day or in bright light but its there) its more common then you think look it up. The browser is also shit. Pages load but you can’t side scroll most the time. Plus words appear very small and if zoomed in are pixalated. Plus it takes at minimum 4 steps to make a call ( dial half the number or name of a contact before the contact you want pops up (one at a time not many like the inc2), then pick the contact, then pick the number then send. The gallery loads pics much slower then the inc2. You have to go to gallery, pick my pics, then scroll till you find the one your looking for. The Razr is loaded with internet connection stuff. Always prompting you to use a media thing other then just listening to music or looking at pix. I’m surprised Motorola hasn’t been sued by Apple. Cuz the phone is more like Apple then Samsung is. The speaker is loud though and bumps music pretty good. All in all though the inc2 even if 3g and single core is a much better phone now that I had the Razr. So what if we don’t get ics. On the Razr it sucks balls. Also the HTC is more customizable, easier to manage, has more features overall as far as menu choices. Get the Razr if you want, like I said it looks cool, but I guarantee you’ll hate it. I think most people that like it never had anything else besides Motorola. That’s why they say its awesome. But if a single core can beat it in speed it can’t be all that great in my opinion. Did I mention the camera sucks? The pictures are horrible. Play with it in a store, and compare it to your inc2. I’ve only had it 4 days, and I’m sending it back. It’s that bad that i don’t want to deal with it for two years. Also I got it for ‘free’ from Verizon. ‘Free’ as in if i kept it I’m paying $128 in equipment tax on top of my bill, and a two year upgrade contract…. Your welcome :-)

I bought this phone last December with the understanding that it would be getting updates in the coming year… Still waiting…. Still getting dropped calls… Increasingly unhappy with both HTC and Verizon. Both of whom are pretty close to losing a loyal customer as soon as this contract is up.

The European version the incredible S has been ruining ics for some time now. Other then a better speaker in it, the internals are the same. So the inc2 is capable. But Verizon just wants to force you to upgrade. In my opinion if the inc2 was released as a dual core 4g it would probably hold its value as much as the Rezound. But being that its one of the few 3g smart phones left we should pay Verizon less because we don’t receive updates nor get the 4g LTE service. Why pay the same for a service that others with newer phones get better of? At the least upgrade us to the rezound for free. Since it came first and the incredible 4g is a piece of shit……

My upgrade date is in March of 2013. Think HTC will have this locked down by then? LOL, no, I don’t either.
iPhone 5 is looking better and better.

iphone for real, people. I was super loyal to android and 100$ anti iphone. Then I tried using one for a day…. I’m so done with android. All of the samsung phones I’ve used are terrible, hard to use, the interface is buggy, newest models are even less usable than my Inc 2 running an ancient OS.

It’s not HTC its Verizon that’s not allowing the update. They want you to spend money on their newer phones that you can get anywhere else for next to nothing. Apple is ok. But i prefer Android. Less restrictions…..
