New Lithium Battery Promises 8X Longer Life
The Energizer Bunny might keep going and going and going, but mobile pc users have been waiting and waiting and waiting for an advance in battery technology that will yield a jump in battery life. If researchers at South Korea’s Hanyang University have their say, we might just see that. They different approach involves silicon instead of graphite in making lithium batteries. That core change is supposed to yield 800% more storage capacity. Don’t look for this right away, but keep your fingers crossed that we begin to hear more about this soon. It would be nice (and about time) to see a breakthrough here.

It’s been so many improvements in the battery’s technology over the past 2-3 years but why are we not seeing any of it actually implemented??? These news started to make me rather sad as 8x longer life time would be great but I don’t believe we will actually be able to get anything like this anytime soon :(

I’ve been hearing about incredible technologies for batteries over many years, but we still have the same mediocre lion batteries. I just hope the computer makers don’t reduce the battery size by 1/8th because of the 800% improvement, thus leaving us with the same inadequate battery limitations that we have right now…and this is from someone that has no problem getting over 6 hours of battery life, and frequently get double digit battery life….I want more, much more, especially after battery wear is factored in.
