New Samsung Galaxy S II Promo Puts Droid Bionic Ads to Shame

Published

on

Last week, the Motorola Droid Bionic launched to great fanfare. And, as expected, the launch was backed by an extensive ad campaign complete with the usual Droid flair. I had high hopes for Verizon’s Droid Bionic ad campaign but to be honest, I think the commercials have landed flat on their face. They don’t make sense to the average user and they are a little too over the top for their own good.

I loved the original Droid commercials and I liked the Droid X2 commercials but for some reason, the Droid Bionic ads just haven’t done it for me. In fact, I’ve heard from several people that told me that they had no idea it was a phone commercial until the very end. Confusing customers is not what you want to be doing when advertising a flagship device like the Droid Bionic.

Galaxy S II Ad

So what does Verizon need to do? Well, maybe take a page out of Samsung’s book.

Sammy just released a new ad for its upcoming U.S. launch of the Galaxy S II. The ad, which you can watch below, is well done and it does exactly what it needs to do. Combines flair with simplicity. It informs consumers and it gets them excited. Even I was a little excited at the end of this commercial and I’m not planning on getting one of these.

And there’s a little humor tucked in there too.

Verizon should be taking notes. The point of advertising is to help sell consumers, not confuse them.

I totally agree. I just replayed the ad in slow motion because I couldn’t figure it out and wanted to see if there was something I was missing, or if it really made little sense.

I had seen the ad umpteen number of times and still didn’t know what it was for, only that it was annoying and violent. It seems like something that was designed by and for some idiot 18 year old gamer. Stupid ad placement if that’s the target audience – it was on Fox News during the business report! MTV might be a better choice.

…Yeah much better commercial. Bionic ended up being that M80 that you were saving for a special occasion. Then after waiting and building all that anticipation………… it ends up being a dud lol

i disagree, it is the best phone on Verizon currently, and the only phone with a dual-core and LTE, AND the battery life isn’t atrocious. Is there a better phone around the corner?  yes, but when isn’t there?  The ad for the bionic with the chick fighting with swords, yeah not so good. Interesting but not very descriptive

      But these ads: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnFcNCvCKEw&feature=player_embedded

This is true. But I never mentioned anything about it not being the best phone currently on Verizon. I was referring to the fact that Motorola kept making us wait longer & longer. Then when it was finally released it was a disappointment in general. Especially since much more capable phones are now only a month or so away lol
