Nexus 4 Android 4.4 KitKat Update Release Extremely Close

Published

on

Google has posted the Nexus 4 Android 4.4 KitKat update factory image online, a sign that the Nexus 4 Android 4.4 KitKat update release should be taking place in the near future just like Google said it would.

Earlier this week, Google announced that it had begun the Android 4.4 KitKat update roll out. The announcement, which came a few days after the software was finally detailed in full, revealed that the Nexus 7 Wi-Fi and the Nexus 10 would be the first recipients of the Android 4.4 KitKat update. Those three updates, there are two Nexus 7’s after all, have started rolling out to users and should continue to do so over the next few days.

Google also announced plans for other Nexus devices, saying that the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 7 HSPA+ and Nexus 7 LTE would be getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update in the near future. And while Google hasn’t started rolling out the Nexus 4 Android 4.4 KitKat update, the software’s release date appears to be extremely close as Google has posted the Nexus 4 Android 4.4 factory image online.

The factory image, which can be found on Google’s developer website, allows users to install the software a little bit early should they have the know-how. The update, which is build KRT16O, is also a sign that an Over-the-Air update for those that don’t wish to install early is on the way in the near future. Exactly when is unclear but we expect it to touch down soon.

We fully expect Google to roll out the Nexus 7 LTE and Nexus 7 HSPA+ Android 4.4 KitKat updates in relatively near future soon as well as they too have appeared on Google’s website. It’s possible that the updates could roll out together with the Nexus 4 update. Those updates should be joined by a Android 4.4 KitKat update for the HTC One Google Play Edition, a device that HTC said would be getting its update within 15 days of the KitKat announcement.

Once the Nexus 4 Android 4.4 update and the other updates arrive, users will be treated to a number of new features and enhancements. KitKat may not be the overhaul that some Android users were looking for but it’s still a welcomed update nonetheless.

    Beware of NEXUS products

    Owning a Nexus product is no guarantee of getting the newest Android OS first or even AT ALL. Google abandoned me!

    I purchased a New Samsung Galaxy Nexus 6 months ago. It came with Android JellyBean OS. I have been told that Google will not be giving the new KitKat 4.4 OS to the Galaxy Nexus. It’s only 6 months old!!!

    I own several Google products and specifically bought the Galaxy Nexus for the reason you described but Google has ripped me off. They will be updating my Nexus 7 that I have had for much longer than my Galaxy Nexus. I have coordinated all of my devices to Google (Laptop, Tablet, Phone, Chromecast) but that loyalty is over. I will be converting to Apple over the next several montha and;

    I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A GOOGLE PRODUCT AGAIN!

    Goodbye GOOGLE! And no thanks!

      I’m sorry techray, but that’s not true at all. You may have purchased the phone 6 months ago, but that in no way makes it new. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was released in Europe on 17th November 2011. That’s MORE than 2 years ago! That’s more than the length of a regular phone contract, and long enough for much newer, faster, and better technology to have been released, i.e. the Nexus 5.

      I’m not sure what you expect, or how you’d expect innovation. Get over the fact you bought an OLD phone.

    Techray I still think it is unfair that Gnex owners got screwed. Yes its 2 years old, but 4.4 supposed to have very minimum hardware requirements. You got Scroogled.
