Nexus 4, Nexus 7 Android 4.3 Updates Rolling Out Slowly

Published

on

Last week, Google started rolling out Android 4.3 updates for several Nexus devices including the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and Galaxy Nexus. However, the software, as expected, is rolling out extremely slow and some Nexus users have yet to receive their Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates.

In San Francisco, Google announced both Android 4.3 and the new Nexus 7. The Nexus 7 replaces the older Nexus 7 while the Android 4.3 update replaces the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update that rolled out last November. In true Google form, the company announced that Nexus devices would be getting the update first and that the software would start hitting the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and Galaxy Nexus that day.

That was Wednesday and it’s now Monday and it appears that the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 updates have yet to hit everyone as the updates remain absent for some users, including us. Nexus 10 and Galaxy Nexus owners are unfortunately in the same boat as well as Google works, slowly, to upgrade devices with the latest version of Android software.

Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 owners who are in a panic or are simply wondering where their updates are should remain patient as this is normal. Google typically takes at least a week to deliver updates to all of its users and often times, it can take longer. Both the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 7 are widely adopted devices so it could certainly take some time for the roll out to complete.

Users should avoid checking the Settings for the updates as the updates will prompt when they are ready to download. Those who are impatient can simply try to force the updates, or, manually install the updates. Users who aren’t experts with their device should avoid the manual installation and instead, wait for Google to roll out the software OTA, which again, should happen sometime soon.

Android 4.3 is a relatively small Android update but it’s still on that should have owners excited. The software comes with enhancements that included a tweaked camera app, restricted user profiles for tablets, auto complete in the dialer and more. It’s not on par with the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update that is expected this year, but it will hold owners over during the wait.

We still haven’t seen Android 4.3 hit non-Nexus devices though we have heard that the HTC One Android 4.3 update could be rolling out in the near future.

Be aware. Some apps Like the TWC app break with the new 4.3 update. Search for TWC app not working on the new Nexus 7 with Android 4.3.

That app might as well be broken anyway. Same with the “watch espn” app that requires TWC login, simply does not work. TWC loves advertising their silly app, but they have absolutely no idea how to support it.

I have a Nexus 10 and am still waiting as of 7/29. The main reason that I want this release is to get Bluetooth 4 which is the lower energy version. Right now my BT operation on this tablet is pathetic and hopefully Android 4.3 will resolve that. In the meantime, I purchased a Samsung Note refurbished from Walmart for $279, and so far that looks like a far better value than my Nexus 10 for $500. I will only buy Samsung Android Products the future since they look and act more like finished products than the ones that Google supplies.

Had my Nexus 10 update in the UK 2 days ago. BT4 will only improve battery performance if you have BT4 low energy accessories that only connect to sync info periodically. It’s backwards compatible with older standards so using things like BT speakers and headsets will still drain the battery as it did before. Just so you know, the N10 is actually made by Samsung!

The Sprint HTC One still hasn’t received the 4.2.2 update. What hope is there that 4.3 is going to roll out to it soon?

My brother received 4.3 on his HTC One 2 days ago and I just received the update on my Nexus 7, quite impressed so far and it looks like they are getting there with the roll out!

I just installed 4.3 on my Nexus 10 and things seemed to work OK except that my Bluetooth keyboard only stays energized for 10 to 20 seconds at most and then turns off. With 4.3 and the lower energy BT, the BT should stay on all the time I would think, but seems they haven’t resolved that yet.

Sort of ridiculous that Google markets the nexus 4 as getting updates immediately bit I still haven’t been updated almost a week later. Shitty phone also can’t hold a internet band to save its life.

I did the 4.3 update on my nexus 4 today.it disabled the touch screen and there is no way to restart or do anything on that phone without the touch screen working.it’s a brick. I have to use insurance to get a refurb…. I’ve had that phone for 3months…
