Nexus 4 Sold Out in Google Play Again

Published

on

The Nexus 4 is sold out in the Google Play Store as of 10 AM Eastern on Saturday December 15th.

The 16GB Nexus 4 was on sale, with a six to seven week wait, through early Saturday morning. The higher capacity model joins the Nexus 4 8GB model which has been unavailable since December 3rd.

At this point the Nexus 4 is sold out in all models at the Google Play store. The T-Mobile version is out of stock at most stores, but we’ve heard that some T-Mobile locations may receive extra stock in the coming weeks.

16GB Nexus 4 Out of Stock Again

The 16GB Nexus 4 is out of stock again.

The Nexus 4 experienced a rough launch, with erroneous out of stock messages during the first two times Google’s flagship phone went on sale. High demand for the Nexus 4 pushed eBay prices to iPhone-like levels, prompting the online auction giant to limit sales of the device as it does for many Apple products.

Lucky buyers were able to buy the Nexus 4 from T-Mobile in early December, but the carrier is also familiar with issues dring the launch.

Given the timing of this out of stock message, it’s likely that the Google Play Store could be out of stock of the Nexus 4 through the end of 2012.

LG confirmed that the shortage is due to, “high demand” for the high-end smartphone with a budget price. Unlike most smartphones on the market today, the Nexus 4 is primarily sold unlocked without a two-year contract at half the price of an unlocked contract-free iPhone 5.

When asked about the timing of new Nexus 4 sales in early December Google told Gotta Be Mobile it did not have timing to share regarding the 8GB model. We’ve reached out to Google for a comment on when the Nexus 4 will be on sale in the Google Play store again, but did not receive a response when this article was published.

Nexus today something else tomorrow. Patience is a key. In the last 4 months my enthusiasm about particular phone models came and gone more than twice. As long as I have enough of $$$ to spend there’s always something to choose from. one way or another in only 6 month or so all this sparkly new tech will be nothing but ordinary. Why to rush?

That is exactly why people are rushing, if new tech becomes outdated every 6 months then the sooner you buy the newest handset the better.

I was one of the unlucky stiffs that ordered on release day and had to wait 3 weeks for the phone. When I finally got it, it had a faulty radio, I requested a replacement and heard nothing from Google play until Dec 14th when they told me I would have a 3-4 week wait because the RMA stock was backordered as well. Keep in mind they put a hold on my account for the price of the phone when I first ordered the replacement and its just now dropping off. The phone was great for the week I had it before I realized it couldn’t switch between towers. My experience with Google play was pretty horrible though. I have requested a refund and am just going to purchase another device and give up on the nexus 4. Might give windows phone a try. Now is as good a time as any. Still have my nexus 7 for my android fix.

Funny – I ordered my 16gb nexus 4 from the Play website on Dec 5th. I was told there was a 5 week wait.
Then on Dec 6th , a day after I ordered, I had the device in my hands at home in Austin.
It seems like google doesn’t have a good handle on its supply here.

I have the feeling that most of Google’s N4 inventory is going towards replacing defective models that have been returned. I’ve been reading a lot about technical issues plaguing the phone thus far. If I end up going with an Android, it will probably be a Motorola Razr.
