Nexus 5 Rumors Take a Turn

Published

on

The Nexus 5 rumors have taken a bit of a twist today as a solid source has indicated that a recent FCC filing for an LG device believed to be the Nexus 5 isn’t for the Nexus 5 at all and is instead for a version of the LG G2, the company’s flagship.

Last week, we saw an LG D820 roll through the FCC with a number of high-end features on board, features that mirrored the LG G2, a device that the Nexus 5 is rumored to be based on. Many speculated that the device could be Google’s new Nexus smartphone, the Nexus 5, which has been rumored to be made by LG and take after the LG G2, at least from a hardware standpoint.

This man was caught on video on the day that Google unveiled Android 4.4 KitKat sporting a phone that may be the Nexus 5.

According to evleaks however, the LG D820 is a CDMA version of the LG G2, LG’s upcoming flagship smartphone. He followed up that claim with a spec sheet depicting an LG G821 though it did not have an LG D820 listed in the photo. Evleaks has a solid track record when it comes to smartphone leaks so it’s possible that he is dead on here.

However, there is one big possible glaring hole in his argument and that’s the fact that the camera sensor on the device in the FCC filing is situated on a different part of the back. While the LG G2 camera module is located in the center of the device, just above the volume rocker, the camera sensor on the device in the FCC filing is in the top corner, a pretty big difference. It also doesn’t match the camera location of the potential Nexus 5 leak that we saw in the Android 4.4 KitKat video. That camera sensor was also located in the top corner.

Evleaks in the past has claimed that the Nexus will be coming from Motorola with no mention of LG, so it’s possible that he is accurate here. It’s also possible that something is amiss, it’s simply not clear, and probably won’t be until we get much closer to the Nexus 5 event.

Rumors suggest that the Nexus 5 could launch in October, same as last year’s Nexus 4, and do so alongside a new Android update in Android 4.4 KitKat and a new Nexus 10, possibly made by Asus.

Recently, we saw the Nexus 4 8GB discontinued by Google, a sign that it’s life is winding down in favor of a new device. It’s possible that that device could be a Nexus 5 from LG based on the LG G2, it’s possible that we could see a Motorola Nexus for the first time, and it’s possible that we could see multiple Nexus smartphones debut for the first time to compete with the iPhone 5C, Apple’s rumored cheap iPhone.

Another detail that points to the LG D820 being the Nexus 5 is the mention of KeyLimePie and ‘Hammerhead’ in the OS details in the FCC document. The Nexus 4 codename was ‘Mako’ and the Nexus 5 has been rumored for awhile now to go under ‘Hammerhead’. Add to this the fact that KeyLimePie…now known as KitKat would only be appearing in a Nexus device and it seems irrefutable. Why would a non-Nexus device have KitKat/KeyLimePie before a Google handset? It wouldn’t. https://Nexus5Forum.com

Also, the multitude of bands the device supports: hardly any device other than a nexus is pentaband let alone septaband LTE, and Sprint rarely makes a dual CDMA/GSM world phone. I call deliberate misinformation to turn us away from the smoke.

hey, i think you made a typo
“we saw the Nexus 4 8GB discontinued by Google, a sign that it’s life is winding down in favor of a new device.”

I think you meant to say Discounted instead of Discontinued as they are still seling the phone on Google Play Store

Google already confirmed that the 8GB version is sold out and is never to return.

“It also doesn’t match the camera location of the potential Nexus 5 leak that we saw in the Android 4.4 KitKat video:” Do you mean it does match the nexus 5 seen in the video? Remember the pictures are taken from the inside of the back cover so flip it over and it matches up perfect.

Could also be a “Nexus variant” from LG. I remember when they said they wanted multiple vendor nexus devices at once.

EVLEAKS is an idiot who apparently can’t read FCC documents even when sober. The LG-D820 waltzed into the FCC in August with firmware “hammerhead” “keylimepie”, pentaband HSPA+ and multiple LTE bands — and he says it’s a CDMA-only G2 variant?

And when talking about the LG-D820, he shows an LG-D821 graphic. Since he’s wrong about the LG-D820 (who do you believe, the FCC radio tests or him?), then I don’t trust what he says about the specs of the LG-D821 either.

EVLEAKS was wrong on GS4 and Note 3 rendition, was wrong on Nexus 4. and now he’s wrong about the Nexus 5. Why does anyone even listen to him?
