The Android M Preview Isn't for Everyone

It's important to understand that the Android M Developer Preview isn't for everyone and that you're taking a risk installing it on your Nexus 6. Some features are still broken, many are missing completely (like Android Pay or Google Now on Tap) and this software is still a work in progress.

This is a piece of beta software. It's not meant for the general public. It's meant for developers and enthusiasts. Regular users should wait for the release in or around September, which then Google will push updates, or carriers will deliver them as well. Hopefully Verizon isn't last again.

We went ahead and installed Android M on the Nexus 6, and so far the results have been positive, but then again, many features are still missing, making for an incomplete experience. Battery life seems improved, but lots of apps aren't updated to support it, we've had the occasional app crash, and battery life is up and down.  If you rely on the Nexus 6 for work or school and you don't own another device, you shouldn't install the Android M Developer Preview.

If you're uncomfortable flashing software via ADB and software on your computer, or need the Nexus 6 as a stable daily device, we'd recommend waiting for the actual update.
