Nexus 6 vs LG G3: Size Comparison

It’s finally here and we’ve been enjoying the Nexus 6, as well as posted our initial hands-on and impressions video. Since then we’ve received multiple questions from prospective buyers regarding the overall size of the device. It’s a big phone, and here we compare it to the flagship LG G3 released earlier this year.

Google’s new Nexus 6 is a whale of a smartphone, a phablet if you will, coming in with a massive 5.96-inch Quad-HD display and some stunning features to accompany the new Android 5.0 Lollipop. And while we can’t show you everything just yet, below we’ll compare it to the phone many thought it would take after, the LG G3, a company who made the last two Nexus smartphones, but not the Moto Nexus 6.

The Nexus 6 release date hasn’t arrived yet, but hopefully this will help prospective buyers have a better idea of what it’s about before they buy, or let them decide it’s worth skipping and get the G3 instead. Last month Google announced the all new Nexus 6 smartphone along with the Nexus 9 tablet, and Android 5.0 Lollipop. Later, it confirmed a Nexus 6 pre-order date for October 29th. Right on time, the Nexus 6 went up for pre-order as expected, but sold out in less than 5 minutes by our count. Two or three minutes tops, actually.

The Nexus 6 pre-order situation was rather poor, selling out in minutes, but Google’s promised more stock each Wednesday for the next few weeks. Or until the release date. To make matters a little better, Motorola now has the phone for sale as well. The LG G3 was announced back in May and after a few months arrived for buyers in the United States, and it has been rather popular and successful. It runs nearly the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat, not the latest Android 4.4.4 release, and is expected to receive an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop before the end of the year.

In fact, a recent leak and report suggests the LG G3 could see Android 5.0 Lollipop within the next month, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Both phones have large Quad-HD displays, stunning cameras, and some of the best specs around, and here’s the full breakdown for those weighing each and every option before buying.

As you can see these two devices are quite close, but with a later release the Nexus 6 edges it out in a few areas. It has a bigger display, a larger battery with Turbo charging support, dual front facing speakers, and a newer, faster 2.7 GHz quad-core processor under the hood.

All said and done though, those small differences won’t matter too much to potential buyers, as these are two of the best phones released inside of 2014 and will be excellent choices for years to come. Of course Nexus devices will get updates faster and more frequently, but LG’s promised to improve in that area.

The LG G3 is currently $99 from most carriers on contract, and only $599 outright for the 32GB model. Meaning it is slightly less both on contract and regular over the Nexus 6. Or at least from what we’re expecting. The Nexus 6 is $649 for the 32GB model and $699 for the 64GB variant, so the choice is a tough one. We’re expecting carriers to announce pricing on the Nexus 6 soon, and it will likely come in around $199 or $249 on contract.

It’s also worth noting the LG G3 is readily available, while the Nexus 6 release date is still a mystery with T-Mobile first on November 12th, and users waiting for all other four major US carriers to announce details. Stay tuned for a full Nexus 6 review in the near future.
