Published

on

Google continues to remain mum on the details about the rumored Nexus 7 2 though its release appears to be getting closer as the Asus K009, a device believed to be the new Nexus 7, has passed through two more certifications on its way to shelves around the globe.

For weeks now, Google has been rumored to have a new Nexus 7 2 on the way to replace the Nexus 7, a device that launched back in July of last year. The device is thought to be the Asus K009 and Asus K008, two tablets that have passed through numerous certification bodies and are thought to be the LTE Nexus 7 2 and Wi-Fi only Nexus 7 2 respectively.

The Nexus 7 2 launch appears to be imminent.

Asus and Google remain mum on the details but if the K009 and K008 are indeed the new Nexus, and it’s likely that they are, we should see an announcement touch down soon.

For one, the Nexus 7 2 release is rumored for the end of July, start of August and all signs point to the device touching down at some point in the near future. We’ve seen the K009 and K008 pass through a number of certifications, roadblocks on their way to release, and just recently, the device have passed through even more certifications.

First, the Asus K009 has passed through the GCF (Global Certification Forum) on its way to shelves and second, the K009 and K008 have seemingly passed by POSTEL, a certification body in Indonesia. Both certifications were spotted by Blog of Mobile and point to something imminent in regards to a new Asus tablet, likely the new Nexus.

A new Nexus 7 is said to be coming soon to replace the old Nexus 7.

Oddly enough, the Indonesian Google Play Store currently does not sell Nexus devices though it appears that that could change with the Nexus 7 2 or at some point down the road. Recently, we saw India start selling the Nexus 7, many months after other nations starting offering the tablet so it’s possible that we could see more countries open up their stores to devices.

The new Nexus 7 2 is thought to be a fairly big upgrade from last year’s model and is said to include a display that can handle 1080p content, a Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, 5MP camera, 32GB of storage, LTE data speeds, and a price tag that is somewhere between $199 and $250. It’s thought to be at least be coming to AT&T and T-Mobile in the United States though it’s possible that we could see more carriers.

It’s also said to be coming with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean which is thought to be rolling out at some point in July though no specific release date has been nailed down.

I’m sick of reading the same ‘rumours’ all the time. The price is going to be a lot dearer too, they say. I’ll wait.
