Nexus 7 3 Rumors Start as New Nexus Arrives

Published

The new Nexus 7 hasn’t been on shelves for a week and already there are rumors of about a third-generation Nexus 7, a Nexus 7 3.

Last week, after months of rumor and speculation, Google unveiled the new Nexus 7 tablet, a device that is the company’s second Nexus 7 and one that improves over the original Nexus 7 in just about every single way. The device is made by Asus, a company that’s headquartered in Taipei, and it’s the second time Asus has made the Nexus 7 in collaboration with Google. And thanks to a new rumor, it could be the last Nexus 7 that Asus makes.

The new Nexus 7 comes with a 5MP camera on the back.

The Nexus 7 3 is rumored to be coming from LG.

According to well-respected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi-Kuo, by way of 9to5Google, Google may look to drop Asus in favor of LG for its third-generation Nexus 7 tablet. While Asus made the first two Nexus 7 tablets, LG also has a close relationship with Google as it was responsible for the successful Nexus 4 smartphone that debuted back in November of last year.

Kuo specifically notes that the company may choose LG based on its ties to LG Display which would allow for Google to source lighter and thinner displays for a new Nexus 7 3 design. We’ve seen Google stick to manufacturers for more than a year with its Nexus devices, but never for more than two so it could be that Asus is replaced come to 2014.

The Nexus 7 3 rumor comes just a few days after Google announced its new Nexus 7 tablet, a device that was originally slated to hit shelves on July 30th but is currently available to those looking for a new 7-inch tablet. It replaces Asus’ original Nexus 7 tablet which had been on shelves for just over a year.

Given Google’s product cycle, it would be difficult to see a new Nexus 7 3 by LG or Asus or someone else released before the middle of 2014 though Google is said to be coming to market with a new Nexus 10 tablet that is built, once again, by Samsung.

That tablet could arrive later this year alongside a new Nexus 5, also though to be built by LG, and Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

Who will manufacture the third generation Nexus 7 is basically of interest to manufacturers. Tech specs are of more interest to the consumer. The article does not provide anything like that.
