Nexus One Won’t Get Android 4.0 Update

Published

on

It’s time to strike one major phone off of the list of devices that are potential candidates to get the boost up to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and that phone is unfortunately Google’s eldest Nexus device, the Nexus One. In comments made to The Telegraph, Hugo Barra confirmed the bad news and stated that the device would not be seeing the update because its hardware was too old.

That doesn’t bode well for some of the other phones that are showing their age, phones like the HTC Droid Incredible and the Motorola Droid X. HTC and Motorola have remained mum though.

Of course, all hope is not lost. This is a Nexus device we’re talking about after all.

Just because an official version of ICS won’t roll out doesn’t mean that the developer community won’t be working hard on a port for Nexus One owners to enjoy.

So, that’s one down and we imagine there will be many more disappointments along the way in the weeks ahead.

This phone is 2 years old now.  Can’t these people just upgrade to a new Galaxy Nexus or some other phone?  2 years is ancient, tough, get a new phone.

Except for the fact that ICS runs on the hardware. Age doesn’t matter.

The SDK port runs on this… quite well in fact. Imagine what it would be like with the source?

HTC phones are really very good phones and I like them.

Some months ago, we have forced HTC to change their mind for HTC Desire. Thus, we could do the same thing to frighten google into submission. Together, we’ll have the ultimate strength :)
