Nexus S 4G Jelly Bean Update Release Date Still in Limbo

Published

on

While most of the talk about missing Jelly Bean updates is in regards to the Verizon Galaxy Nexus and Sprint Galaxy Nexus, there is another device that is still without any news, release date or rumors in regards to its Android 4.1 update. And that device is Sprint’s Nexus S 4G.

Back in July, Google rolled out the Nexus S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to Nexus S devices on carriers around the world. And while many though that the Nexus S 4G may be a part of that initial bunch, the device remains without its upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

So now, here we are, approaching September, and we still haven’t heard a peep out of Google or Sprint in regards to the Nexus S 4G update. Sure, we’ve seen its Jelly Bean binaries tossed into the Android Open Source Project but that hasn’t helped the situation at all.

Sprint and Google remain mum about the Nexus S 4G Jelly Bean update.

At this point, Nexus S 4G owners have it as bad as Galaxy Nexus owners. Sure, the device is aging, but the fact that Nexus S devices on carriers around the world have already received the update is a big slap in the face to those who bought the Nexus S 4G way back when.

Sprint, Google, somebody, at this point, should have said something. At the very least one of them should have let Nexus S 4G owners know that the update is still coming and that owners need to remain patient.

Instead, here we are well over a month after the Nexus S saw its Android 4.1 goodness and Sprint owners are left without any sort of a clue as to when their software will arrive.

It’s little things like this that are hurting the Nexus brand. I’ve already explained why I will likely never buy a Nexus smartphone attached to a carrier ever again (it has to do with a similar problem with the Galaxy Nexus Android 4.1 update) and I can only imagine that there are many others that feel the same way.

We bought a Nexus smartphone for several reasons and one of those reasons was quick updates, a feature that American carriers have seemingly flushed down the drain.

Nexus S 4G owners deserve some answers, maybe even more than Galaxy Nexus owners, so let’s hope those answers come sometime soon.

This is a bunch of malarky. Think I might finally root my Verizon Gnex to get Jelly Bean. Up until this I’ve really had no need to.

Those (Most) users copped out in getting a carrier branded phone. If you get suckered in by the subsidized price by the carrier? Play by carrier rules (slow updates or no updates at all). If you want to get prompt updates? Go out of your way to get the phone straight from Googles website, hence the true Nexus brand experience. Any updates that comes from Google branded phone has to go through the carrier. Raise your fist at the carriers not Google. Though it still saddens me that carriers would brand it as a Nexus brand, but still lag in updates.

I concur sir. I am never buying a nexus phone from a carrier EVER again. If the next nexus is all that I will more than likely cancel my plan and get that directly from google.

Did that and never looked back, so much happier knowing that I will get full support from Google. Instead of running through loops trying to get help from the monkeys at the US carriers.
