Nexus S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update Starts Rolling Out

Published

on

The Nexus S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, despite questions about its roll out status, has apparently started hitting some Nexus S devices.

It would appear that Nexus S variants i9023 and i9020T are seeing the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update roll out, this according to XDA-Developers (2) and a few tips of our own.

We are also seeing numerous reports of the Nexus S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update going live so it would appear that we are in the midst of a roll out.

It doesn’t appear that the update is hitting all variants of the Nexus S so those who don’t have those model numbers might be out in the cold for the time being.

The Nexus S Jelly Bean update has begun to roll out.

It’s also unclear when specific carriers of the device will see the update, namely, Sprint’s Nexus S 4G. We haven’t heard anything from Sprint in regards to a roll out and that could mean that we’re a little ways off from something happening.

However, carriers like Vodafone seem to be on the verge of pushing out Android 4.1 for their versions of the Nexus S so we could definitely see progress soon.

The news of the roll out comes shortly after Vodafone announced that it had suspended the roll out of its Nexus S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update due to some issues.

The carrier specifically said that the “software currently does not meet all the Australian regulatory requirements related to emergency calls.” So it appears that that is the issue at hand and once that’s ironed out, Nexus S owners, at least those on Vodafone should expect a roll out to take place.

For now though, it appears that the update is only touching down on a couple of Nexus S variants and owners of those devices should check to see if the update has arrived Over-the-Air.

To do that, head into the device’s settings and check for updates.
