No New WebOS Products Today, But Many in the Works

HP introduced some nice new products today, all of which I got to check out in person during a briefing in San Francisco. I got all excited when I saw a couple of Palm reps milling around the briefing suite at the St. Regis in downtown San Francisco, but there were no new WebOS products in sight. I know that it’s only been about two months since HP officially sealed the Palm deal and WebOS 2.0 was just released to developers, but I was really hoping to see some new hardware.

In place of new Palm hardware was Tim Pettit, a Palm senior product manager. He assured me that new hardware would be coming soon. He couldn’t give any specifics, but he mentioned that HP plans to bring WebOS to things like printers, netbooks, smartphones and slates.

I have fond memories of my old Palm devices, but it’s hard to get excited about products that don’t exist. At this point, it looks like the WebOS slate is going to be the third WebOS product, with more to follow after the holiday season. By that time several million more people will be hooked on their iOS4 and Android devices.

It appears HP is continuing to work hard at keeping you from purchasing someones else’s product by blanketing the market with a ubiquitous barage of vapor-ware, their core competency these days. They are prespared to go anywhere say anthing to keep you from buying the prodcuts other vendors have brought to market. Meanwjhile they just keep spewing vapor-ware vapo-promises of future relases that will never materialize. It’s all Mark Hurds fault, it is, really….
