Nokia Lumia 920: Latest Firmware Update Severely Cripples Connectivity

Published

on

According to reports compiled by WPCentral, users of the Lumia 920 on AT&T have reported that phones running the recent 1308 firmware update are experiencing intermittent connectivity issues, including LTE data connectivity being completely non-existent or slowing to a trickle.

The 1308 firmware also allows access to a new Access Point Settings menu that, according to Nokia Care via Twitter, “shouldn’t be there”. WPCentral also reports that its devices running the firmware on AT&T’s network weren’t able to receive calls in places where calls were completely possible before.

It should be noted that at most these issues are currently only being experienced by a small amount of users of the Lumia 920, if the related forum topic on Nokia’s support forums is any indication.

The Nokia Lumia 920 is experiencing issues.

We’ve emailed Nokia in search of more information on the issue and to get any feedback on whether a potential fix is in the works. So far we’ve yet to hear back. Nokia moderator tiny_chef did reply to the forum topic, saying:

“We have forwarded this concern to the relevant department for further investigation.”

For now Nokia Care US is recommending users activate and then deactivate Airplane Mode to deal with the bug. This solution is in addition to its previous work around that involved users taking out their SIM card and then placing it back in the device before a restart.

Firmware 1308, which was released last week to Nokia Lumia 920 owners in the United States, added new options for display timeouts including 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, and 5 minute increments. By adjusting these timeout options users of the Lumia 920 are able to customize the exact amount of time it will take their Lumia 920 to lock itself.

In addition to the different timeout options, WPCentral notes that this firmware update also included an enhanced screen storage breakdown that is unique to Nokia’s Lumia line. While all other Windows Phone 8 devices are treated to a simple breakdown of what amount of storage is being used by music, videos, pictures, apps, and the operating system itself, Nokia’s Storage Check takes this a step further. With Storage Check, Lumia users get a complete breakdown of how much space each installed app is using on their device.

This update also included changes in the performance of the Lumia 920’s proximity sensors and enhancements to the rear-facing PureView camera.

I own the Lumia 920 and installed the update and have not experienced any issues. Methinks the lady doth protest too much. “Severely cripples”??? Just a desperate ploy and melodramitic reporting to get clicks. It worked this time on me, but I will avoid GottaBeMobile in the future.

Please note he did say the following “It should be noted that at most these issues are currently only being experienced by a small amount of users of the Lumia 920”

I am currently experiencing exactly the issues shared above and it is a pain in the ass, I am surprised Nokia has not said anything more than what was provided and I truly hope they get this resolved ASAP.

My phone is useless in 80% of my city, where i was used to getting 34-40mbps up/down. I now get cycling from EDGE through LTE . Even while LTE is lit, there is no data throughput.
