Nokia Lumia 925 Coming to AT&T to Take on the iPhone 5S

When the iPhone 5S launches on AT&T in mid-September it will face a new all-metal challenger, Nokia’s Lumia 925.

According to AT&T, its users will be able to purchase the Nokia Lumia 925 flagship for just $99.99 with a two-year service agreement. Other than its new black styling, AT&T’s version of the Lumia 925 mirrors that device that arrived on T-Mobile earlier this summer.

AT&T users can pre-order the device tomorrow, August 28th. The device will officially launch on September 13th.

While AT&T Windows Phone user’s attention has mostly been captured by the Lumia 1020, the Nokia Windows Phone that features a 41-megapixel camera, the Lumia 925 is the closest thing Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system has to the fit and finish of Apple’s iPhone 5, and if rumors about the device are true, the iPhone 5S.

That’s because the Lumia 925 is the first Nokia Windows Phone to drop polycarbonate colored shells in favor of aluminum. Excluding it’s polycarbonate back, the device’s texture and lack of dead weight make it feel every bit as premium as the iPhone 5 or even the HTC One.

Unfortunately, that beauty does come at a price. While the Nokia Lumia 925 does include the PureView Camera optics and optical image stabilization technology for the 8.7 megapixel camera on its rear, it doesn’t include the wireless charging features of it predecessor, the Nokia Lumia 920. Instead users will have to purchase a wireless charging back to use the device with any wireless charging accessories they already have. The Lumia 925 only has 16GB of on-board storage too, a problem that’s made worse by its lack of a microSD card slot.

Inside the Lumia 925 includes 1.5 Ghz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and 1GB of RAM.

Still with its slimmer profile and upgraded 4.5-inch AMOLED display, the Lumia 925 is certainly a more viable competitor to the new slate of devices running Android that are going to launch this fall. That is key since the Lumia 925 will replace the Lumia 920 at the high-end of Nokia’s Windows Phone line-up.
