New Galaxy Note Edge Release Date & Price Details

Published

on

New Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date and Galaxy Note Edge price details have emerged today and these new details help to paint a more specific picture of Samsung’s highly anticipated, yet mysterious, Galaxy Note Edge release.

In September, Samsung took the stage at its Unpacked 2014 launch event and announced a slew of new products including two new Galaxy Note models dubbed Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note Edge will be the company’s high-end Galaxy Note model and a device that’s expected to join the Galaxy Note 4 in select regions before the end of the year.

Several days ago, Samsung confirmed the first Galaxy Note Edge release date for late October in Japan and Japanese carrier KDDI followed that up with an October 23rd release date announcement. And with that release date just a few short days away, we’re seeing new Galaxy Note Edge release date details emerge including information about the missing Galaxy Note Edge price point.

Today, just two days ahead of Japan’s Galaxy Note Edge release, we’ve seen the Galaxy Note Edge release get delayed in some in some areas. According to Blog of Mobile, Japanese carrier KDDI has been forced to postpone the Galaxy Note Edge release in several prefectures. The delay will not impact every single one though this delay should not instill any confidence in consumers waiting for the Galaxy Note Edge ahead of the holidays. It’s not clear how long the Galaxy Note Edge release date might last.

In addition to the Galaxy Note Edge release date delay, fellow Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo has released Galaxy Note Edge price details just two days ahead of the device’s arrival. It looks like the base price of the Galaxy Note Edge will be 93,312 yen which amounts to about $875 U.S. dollars. That’s just a little bit more expensive than the U.S. Galaxy Note 4 off-contract price. In the U.S., the Galaxy Note 4 costs anywhere between $700 and $826 off-contract.

Japanese pricing doesn’t confirm U.S. Galaxy Note Edge pricing though and there’s still a chance that the device will cost far more than its flat screened counterpart that arrived on shelves at the tail end of last week. U.S. carriers have confirmed the Galaxy Note Edge release but they still haven’t confirmed any of the important details.

AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon have all confirmed upcoming Galaxy Note Edge release dates though they have not specified when they’re going to release it. Fortunately, we’ve seen a ton of movement behind the scenes and last week, the U.S. Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release took another gigantic step in the right direction.

At the tail end of last week, the Sprint Galaxy Note Edge was caught passing through the FCC on its way to shelves. FCC approval is necessary before a device can hit shelves and it’s one of the last steps in the release process. Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 4 release date for the U.S. just days after the fifth and final Galaxy Note 4 passed through the FCC.

Sprint’s Galaxy Note Edge joins the AT&T and T-Mobile models with FCC certifications. The Verizon Galaxy Note Edge is the only model left that needs clearance though it’s still not clear when it might pass. U.S. Cellular, for the moment, does not appear to have any plans to stock the Galaxy Note Edge though that could certainly change down the road.

Gotta Be Mobile has heard that at least one carrier could be gearing up for a Galaxy Note Edge release on November 4th. This is unverified information but the source was confident about that date.

The U.S. won’t be the only country unable to match the October 23rd release date in Japan. Release dates in U.S., UK, China, Japan, Australia, Canada, Russia and Korea are either unknown or set for dates that are several weeks away.

Last week, Samsung confirmed a Galaxy Note Edge release for India. The company did not specify any specific details but did say that a release before the end of the year in the one the world’s biggest markets. Russian site Hi-Tech.Mail.Ru recently confirmed Samsung’s plans to release the Galaxy Note Edge in Russia before the end of the year. The website, which has been accurate with information in the past, claims that the company will release the Galaxy Note Edge in November or December.

Other regions like the UK and Canada will not get the Galaxy Note Edge at launch. Samsung Canada recently confirmed a Galaxy Note Edge release for 2015 while Samsung UK remains tight lipped about its release. UK based retailers have told consumers to prepare for a delayed release though it’s not clear how much of a gap we might see.

Samsung also now says that the Galaxy Note Edge release in Australia has been pushed to November 12th for unspecified reasons. The device was originally scheduled to arrive on November 5th.

The new Galaxy Note Edge is a concept phone but one that should be intriguing to those that are looking to upgrade to a high-end smartphone. Galaxy Note Edge specs include a Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus.

I have the Note 3 and think this new Edge handset looks really cool and can definitely see many uses for the edge screen that 3rd party apps could hugely benefit from! The UK won’t be getting this handset from Samsung for a while but several independent UK suppliers (Clove, Expansys and Handtec) are already offering pre orders at around £650. Not certain when delivery will happen tho and may well be late in the year!
