Nuvel vSOS Now Available for Android
Nuvel vSOS, a digital age Life Alert-like service, has finally brought out an Android version of their app. Previously only available for iPhone, now Droid users can take advantage of emergency response that not only spans the U.S., but also other parts of the world.
The app has two aspects to it. Owners can add personal medical information (such as allergies and medications) to the app, which can help emergency personnel once they arrive. You can also include emergency contact information to alert loved ones or your doctor if something happens.
For $12.99 per month, vSOS users will also get access to 24/7 comprehensive emergency services. If the home screen icon is pressed for more than 3 seconds, it sends a distress signal to GEOS, a professional services company, which will then contact local 911 (or the equivalent) if they can’t reach the user.
In addition to the normal medical emergency crew, GEOS also has a Search and Rescue arm, adding even more to the value. Need a helicopter to airlift you off the side of a mountain after breaking your leg? Apparently this app is for that. And even if you don’t know where you are on the mountain, the app will send GPS location data to EMS teams.
The vSOS system will work in North America, South America and Europe. This is particularly useful for travelers — you won’t have to worry about knowing the emergency code in unfamiliar territory. But it’s just as useful if you don’t roam too far from home, especially if you live alone.
