OnePlus 5T vs Pixel 2 XL: Camera(s)

The OnePlus 5T has something the Pixel 2 XL doesn't, but we're not really sure that it even matters. That's dual rear cameras. It's a popular feature on smartphones, mainly in an effort to take portrait photos or zoom in closer to subjects.

The OnePlus 5T has two powerful cameras on the back, while Google's Pixel 2 XL has one and uses software and machine learning to offer similar features.

Well, according to rumors. We'll know for sure in mid-November when the phone is announced. One is a 20 megapixel f/2.4 aperture lens that will allow owners to zoom in with stunning clarity and take portrait photos with beautiful blur effects similar to the iPhone 8 Plus and X. There's also an advanced pro mode the company is really excited about.

However, the main camera is a 16-megapixel lens with a faster f/1.6 aperture than the Pixel. It uses all of the pixels to focus extremely fast and takes in more light for better low-light performance. The front selfie camera is 16 megapixels too for great low-light photos, wide-angle and 1080p video recording or Snapchats. These numbers could change when the phone gets announced, but all signs point to this information being accurate.

OnePlus has never been able to compete with the big boys in the camera department, but they got really close with the OnePlus 5. Enough that it's essentially good enough, especially when you consider how much the phone costs.

Google's Pixel 2 XL has arguably the best smartphone camera on the market. If that's extremely important to you, the choice is clear. Get the Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL.
