First things first, the biggest difference between these phones is usually the screen, but that's no longer the case. This year, the OnePlus 6 delivers a beautiful 6.28-inch 1080p HD AMOLED display. It's a hair bigger than the S9+, and slightly smaller than the Note 8. And yes, it's only 2280 x 1080p, but Samsung's phones run at 1080p out of the box too, not Quad-HD. So, you're getting a big 1080p HD AMOLED screen with both phones. Samsung's S9+ is 6.2 while the OP6 is 6.28-inches. Both phones are using a 2:1 long and skinny aspect ratio, and a nearly bezel-free design. Basically, it comes down to this. If you hate the notch, get the Galaxy S9+. That's because OnePlus copied the iPhone and has a notch on the top front. You can hide it with software, but then you'll have a bezel just like older phones, or like the S9. With the Galaxy S9+, you get what's likely a better screen that's nearly the same size, but it has curved edges. This gives it a premium look and feel, but could make it more fragile. Both designs give you a huge screen without taking up a lot of space, it just comes down to your wants, needs, or preferences.
