Pico Projector in a Lamp Makes Any Surface Touchable

Published

on

Here’s an interesting video from the National Taiwan University. A rig consisting of a pico projector and camera can fir in to any standard light bulb socket and project on the surface below. The camera allows the system to sense touches and gestures. In the video, gestures are used to focus in on buildings. The coolest part of the system is that objects from the projection can be thrown onto portable devices for close 3D examination.

To suggest a completely useless but cool use of this:
Picture a ‘Mike Hammer’ office from 1959. Walk in, go behind the wooden desk with two brass lamps on it, and sit on the thinly padded oak swivel chair. Lay your hands flat on the worn desk blotter and the surface lights up with computer screen and virtual keyboard.
X, I see you in that office.
