Programming Windows Phone 7 for free!

Published

on

If you ever wanted to get into programming for a mobile OS, Microsoft Press is making it a little easier with a free ebook. This isn’t some cheap looking, thrown together ebook either. It’s 24 chapters and 1,000 pages by Charles Petzold, author of dozens of programming books.

Microsoft is rumored to be spending 500 million on the launch of Windows Phone 7, it’s no surprise that they are throwing out quality content for developers for free too.

I just recently contacted a good friend and Microsoft MVP, Windows Phone, Steven Hughes to ask him to help me out getting started with some programming on Windows Phone. He’s not a hard core programmer, but he knows enough to be dangerous. Now that this ebook has been released for free, I am going to have to give it a whirl (once I grab a device). I have always wanted to take time to learn to program for a mobile OS, but haven’t had the time. Now I do and it’s a perfect time to do it. Thanks Charles and Microsoft for the freebie.

You can download a PDF here (38.6 MB).

You might also want to check out Jeff Wilcox’s blog. He’s been posting stuff about winmo7 programming for a while, and silverlight before that (the two are quite close). https://www.jeff.wilcox.name/ Of course, there are tons of other resources out there too.
