Rare Halo: The Master Chief Collection Deal Arrives

An all-too rare deal that allows users to save a bit on a physical copy of Halo: The Master Chief Collection has surfaced over at New Egg, an online retailer with roots in the computer hardware space.

When the rare Halo: The Master Chief Collection deal first began is unclear, but as of right now, New Egg is offering any of its shoppers – new or old – a whopping 10% off the cost of the upcoming Xbox One exclusive game. With that 10% discount, the price of Halo: The Master Chief Collection falls for New Egg customers to just $53.99. No gimmicks are necessary and there aren’t any coupons involved either. Users simply login to their New Egg account or sign up for an account to take advantage of the Halo: Master Chief Collection deal.

A $6 discount on Halo: The Master Chief Collection might not sound like a big deal, but it is. First, there’s the very real  issue of finding any sort of discount on new games to begin with. The only real way to save on an upcoming game like Halo: The Master Chief Collection was to trade-in older titles to video game retailers like GameStop for bonuses towards new titles. In the last month, those seem to have gone out of fashion. GameStop announced that it was out-right killing those limited-time deals to focus on boosting every day trade-in value.

To date, only Microsoft is offering any kind of Halo: The Master Chief Collection deal. That deal gives users who pre-order the game an Xbox Live gift card worth $10. The gift card can be used for anything that’s available through the Xbox Live Store. Whether it’s smart to take Microsoft or New Egg up on their individual Halo: The Master Chief Collection deal depends on where they want to spend that savings. With the New Egg, deal users can spend the money they save anywhere.

Also, let’s keep in mind that this is Halo: The Master Chief Collection. When Microsoft revealed the Xbox One more than a year ago everyone hoped – or at least expected – the company to also announce a new version of Halo to compliment the console and drive sales. Later in the year, it was apparent that Microsoft had no plans to release a version of Halo for the Xbox One in its first year due to the release of Halo 4 for the Xbox 360.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is part of a two-pronged strategy to get Halo fans over to the Xbox One and off the Xbox 360. The game is a remake of all the Halo games to feature series protagonist John 117 before it. As such, it’s probably makes more sense to think of it as remakes of Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4. Every environment has been updated to take advantage of the Xbox One’s processors and graphics. Users can experience John’s entire fight thus far in chronological order or by playing their favorite missions in a playlists.

Each game’s multiplayer experience is included in Halo: The Master Chief Collection too, but buyers might not recognize them. They too, have been updated for the Xbox One’s more powerful hardware. That being said, Microsoft has been careful to not make unnecessary changes. For example, the pistol from Halo 2 will feel and do the same amount of damage in the updated Halo 2 multiplayer in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

The second part of Microsoft’s strategy involves Halo 5: The Guardians, the next major Halo release on the console. Like The Master Chief Collection, owning an Xbox One will be the only way to get the game. The two are forever linked in a different way too. Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be the only way to get into the Halo 5 beta when it arrives later this fall.

Halo: The master Chief Collection will arrive on store shelves on October 11th. Both the Microsoft Store and New Egg deals are for physical copies of the game.
